Tech Powers Past Eagles to Even Series 1-1

Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State pounded out 15 hits and scored 11 runs, but the Tennessee Tech offense was too much and the Golden Eagles routed MSU 27-11 Friday at Allen Field at refontaine Park in Morehead, Ky.

Tennessee Tech (36-19/ 17-9 OVC) plated 10 runs in the eighth inning to break the game open. TTU pounded out 21 hits and drew 14 walks. The Golden Eagles had seven players with two or more hits.

Morehead State (14-38/ 4-22 OVC) spotted TTU three runs in the first inning, getting one back in the bottom half of the first frame, when Hunter Thomas slapped a single to right and scored on Eli Kirkendoll's two-out single.

Tech got two runs in the third and another in the fourth to go ahead 6-1. The Eagles answered in the bottom of the fourth. Davis German slammed his ninth home run of the season over the left field fence. Kirkendoll smacked a one-out double down the left field line. Griffin Olson and Gunner Collins both walked to load the bases. Second baseman Aubrey Kearns cleared the bases with a triple to deep left center. He scored when center fielder Caden Sheridan singled up the middle to tie the game 6-6.

After giving up four in the top of the sixth, MSU got one run back on Kearns' fifth home run of the season, a drive over the wall in right to keep the Eagles within reach at 10-7. MSU gave up a run in the top of the seventh but got it back when Davis Germann led off with a double to right and scored on Kirkendoll's triple in the right field corner.

Logan Moller (3-1) picked up the win for TTU, pitching three innings. AJ Hacker (1-2) took the loss for MSU.

Morehead State will wrap up the season tomorrow in the rubber game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05. The game can be watched on ESPN+.
