MOREHEAD, Ky. -- A 6-3 guard with the ability to pile up points and rebounds for his team, Davion Cunningham, has inked with the Morehead State Men's Basketball team. Cunningham joins the Eagles following one season at USC Aiken and two at UNC Asheville.
"Davion is a versatile guard who can score, facilitate and rebound," said Head Coach
Jonathan Mattox. "He is an athletic driver, who can finish at the rim. He's also a quality shooter from both mid-rand and three. His scoring and versatility is a welcome addition to our program."Â
Cunningham, a native of Charlotte, N.C., averaged 15.9 points and 5.6 rebounds for a USC Aiken team that finished with 24 wins and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II championship. He also distributed 51 assists and had 40 steals while shooting 47Â percent from the floor. Cunningham buried 41 three-pointers as he earned Third-Team All-Peach Belt Conference.Â
He tallied 26 points and eight rebounds in an NCAA Tournament win over Catawba (N.C.). Cunningham produced double figure points 26 times and scored 20+ six times. Scholastically, Cunningham earned Academic All-District from College Sports Communicators for 2024-25.
Cunningham was on the Bulldog team at UNC Asheville in 2022-23 and 2023-24, appearing in 19 games his final season there. He helped Asheville to the NCAA Tournament in 2022-23 and to the Big South Conferebce title game as a second-year player.
Cunningham was a standout at North Mecklenburg High School in North Carolina He led his team to a state championship and was crowned a two-time all-state and all-district selection.
