MOREHEAD, Ky. -- A pair of true freshmen, one in the lineup and one as an individual, ended up leading the Morehead State women's golf team this week in an inclement weather-shortened Johnie Imes Invitational in Missouri.
The 6,264-yard, par 72 Club at Olde Hawthorne's grounds experienced a little too much rain and lightning on Tuesday to finish the final round. Most of the 14 teams had played at least nine holes but those scores cannot be counted due a shotgun start, so the final tally reverted to the final scores from the 36-hole day on Monday.
Morehead State finished sixth place at 305-297--602 (+26). The Eagles edged out Howard by two strokes and and South Dakota by five strokes. Host Missouri raced away with the team title at minus-14.
Freshman
Margaret Ulrich, playing as an individual, posted the best scorecard for the team. She carded a 75-72--147 (+3) on Monday in her first collegiate event as she secured 13th place. Fellow freshman
Morgan Kennedy led the five-player lineup, fashioning 80-71--151 for 31st place.
Senior
Amelia Rae Greenlee also tied for 31st, coming in with a 76-75--151. Junior
Claudia Hofmeister was next with a 79-73--152 and 39th place.
Junior
Isabella Wiley (77-78--155) and senior
Tuva Marie Isebakke (73-83--156) finished out the Eagle quintet.
Morehead State is off for three weeks before resuming its fall schedule at the Lady Red Wolves Classic in Arkansas Oct. 13-14.
