Eagle Volleyball Opens Conference Play Hosting Southern Indiana Friday-Saturday

Morehead, Ky.-- The Morehead State volleyball team opens Ohio Valley Conference play when they host Southern Indiana this weekend in Johnson Arena Friday and Saturday.

Morehead State comes into the opening weekend of conference play with a 6-5 record after falling twice to Big East foe Xavier last week. Both matches went four sets. Southern Indiana is 4-8 after a pair of four-set wins over cross-town rival Evansville last week.

First serve Friday is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. ET. Saturday's start is slated for 2:05 p.m. ET. Both matches can be seen on ESPN+.

  • Senior M.E. Hargan was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week Monday for her play last week against Xavier. In the Eagles' two matches against the Musketeers, Hargan totaled 41 kills on 101 total attacks for a .277 hitting percentage. She also slammed 3 aces, collected 21 digs and scored 46 points. The honor is Hargan's third in a row; it marks the first time in program history that an Eagle was been the OVC Offensive Player of the Week three straight weeks.
  • Hargan leads the OVC averaging 4.62 kills per set; nationally she ranks 17th in Division I. Her 5.37 points per set rate ranks 12th nationally.
  • Hargan is creeping up in the Morehead State record books. Her 1,175 kills are fifth in program history for the modern era (2008-present). Her 3,516 total attempts rank fourth in the modern era.
  • Morehead State leads the Ohio Valley Conference averaging 12.87 kills per set. The Eagles also top the conference with a .227 attack efficiency.
  • The lone loss Morehead State has taken in the series with Southern Indiana was in the opening round of the OVC tournament on November 20, 2023, in Charleston, Ill. The Screaming Eagles swept MSU (18-25) (22-25) (23-25).

SCOUTING THE SCREAMING EAGLES

USI comes into Johnson Arena at 4-8 and winners of their last two matches, a pair of wins over cross-town rival Evansville last Thursday and Saturday.
  •  The USI attack is led by junior Ashby Willis, who has slammed 164 kills this season. Her 3.81 kills per set rank third in the OVC. She set a career high with 24 kills last Thursday at Evansville, hitting .327 for the match.
  • USI is solid up front, leading the OVC averaging 2.23 blocks per set. Spearheading the defense is junior McKenzie Murphy with 46 total blocks averaging 1.15 blocks per set, which is tops in the OVC. Senior Bianca Anderson has 40 total blocks heading into conference play. Her 0.93 blocks per set rate ranks fifth in the OVC.
  • Kerrigan Fehr leads USI with 18 service aces on the season.  Her 0.42 aces per set rate ranks fifth in the OVC.
