MOREHEAD, Ky.-- The Morehead State Men's golf team will jump a couple states over to Madison, Ill., to play in the Derek Dolenc Invitational hosted by SIUE. This will be the Eagles' third showing in their fall campaign, with tournament play beginning Monday (Sept. 29) and wrapping up Tuesday. Rounds one and two will be played on a course of 6,985 yards, followed by the final round being played on a 7,001 yard course. The tournament will take place at Gateway National Golf Links.Â
Morehead State last played in the Derek Dolenc Invitational in the 2023-24 season, placing sixth out of 16 teams.
"This will be a great chance to see the majority of teams in our conference," said Morehead State head coach Matthew Martin. "Only a couple of the guys have played here before, but I expect everyone to be fully prepared to play their best after our work this week leading up to the event."
The tournament includes a field of 18 teams, heavy in inter-conference play. The tournament includes OVC members such as SIUE, Eastern Illinois, Lindenwood, Tennessee State, UT Martin, Southern Indiana, and Western Illinois. Other entrants include Belmont, Bradley, Green Bay, Idaho, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Omaha, Southern Utah, Weber State, and Wichita State.
Morehead State looks to build off a top-three finish at the Colonel Shootout hosted by Eastern Kentucky. Remy Stalcup was a top-five finisher in the tournament as he was one of only two to shoot below 70 in all 3 rounds.
The tournament will begin at 8:00 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. It will be a 54-hole stroke play, with 36 being played Monday, followed by 18 on Tuesday.Â
