MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Four turnovers, plus four more giveaways on unsuccessful fourth downs, and a couple of breakaway runs by host Presbyterian spelled doom as the Morehead State Football team fell 41-0 at No. 25 PC Saturday to open Pioneer League play.
The Eagles (2-3/0-1 PFL), facing their third nationally-ranked FCS opponent in the first five weeks of the 2025 season, turned the ball over on their first offensive play, fumbled two offensive plays later and also saw the Blue Hose (5-0/1-0 PFL) intercept passes at their own one yard line and in the end zone to thwart Eagle scoring chances. PC jumped on top 14-0 in the first three minutes.
Presbyterian led 35-0 at the half, helped by a 79-yard TD run and a 66-yard scoring dash by running back Zack Switzer. Quarterback Colin Hurst tossed a pair of touchdown passes and rushed for another as well on the day.
Morehead State drove to the Blue Hose 11-yard line in the waning moments of the first half, but
Carter Cravens' pass was picked off at the one-yard line to end the half. Another drive stalled at the PC one-yard line as the Blue Hose kept the Eagles out the end zone on three straight runs and then intercepted
Bryce Patterson in the end zone.
The Eagles finished with 233 total yards and allowed 445 yards to the Blue Hose, including 300+ rushing yards.
Ryan Sissel was a bright spot on defense, recording a career-high 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack. Punter
Kip Warren was another solid aspect as he boomed a career-long 75 yard punt and averaged a single-game career-best 48.2 yards on six punts.
MSU absorbed its first conference shutout defeat since being blanked 38-0 at Campbell in 2017.
The Eagles are back at home next Saturday as rival Dayton visits for a 1 p.m. ET game.
