MOREHEAD, Ky. -- After a stellar round two and an impressive push on round three, the Morehead State men's golf team finished second in the Derek Dolenc Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Morehead State finished with a three-round aggregate score of 833 with rounds of 282-275-276.

The 833 total set the program record for a 54-hole tournament. It was previously 834 at the JT Poston Invitational in 2019. This is also the first team score of -19 which is also a program record for relation to par.

The tournament at Gateway National Golf Links hosted rounds one and two on a course of 6,985 yards, followed by the final round being played on a 7,001 yard course.

The Eagles (-19) finished second, placing right behind Idaho (-31) after the two-day tournament.

The Eagles moved up four spots on the final day, moving from sixth to second. They were tied for taking the biggest jump on the final day following their score of -8 in round three.

"This was a great event for the team," said head coach Matthew Martin. "All six guys showed signs of what they are capable of, and we finished ahead of seven other OVC teams. What's even more exciting is the potential we still have to grow as the season progresses."

Seamus Bogan (70-72-66--208) and Logan McCormick (70-71-67--208) led the way for the Eagles, tying for 10th out of 100 competing individuals. Bogan and McCormick moved up more than twenty spots to push them into the top ten (-5).

Remy Stalcup (71-69-70--210) finished close behind the two, finishing tied for 18th (-3). Logan Liles (71-66-80--217) and Evan Taylor (75-69-73--217) also played in the lineup.

Evan Taylor recorded a hole-in-one during round two on hole 12. Taylor is one of only two Morehead State golfers to record a hole-in-one since at least 2014-15.

Gavin Augenstein competed as an individual, scoring 69-71-74--214.

The Eagles ranked first in par 3s and 2nd in par 5s. McCormick led the tournament in par 3s with an average score of 2.73.

The Eagles will be back in action Oct. 13-14 in Acworth, Ga. when they compete in The Scrappy at Cobblestone.
