MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Men's Basketball collected two Ohio Valley Conference honors on Monday as redshirt junior guard
Davion Cunningham was awarded Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, and
Vince Dawson III garnered his first-ever Freshman of the Week accolade.
Cunningham, a transfer from USC Aiken from Charlotte, N.C., scored a career-high 35 points off the bench as the Eagles rallied to upend Southeast Missouri 71-69 Saturday. Cunningham hit 13 field goals and eight of nine free throws as he scored 25 of his 35 in the second half.
His point total was the highest for an OVC player in a game this season and the second highest for an Eagle in a game since 2013 when Drew Kelly scored 40. He also added five rebounds. He added five rebounds as well. For the week, he shot 67 percent (16-of-24) and averaged 2.5 assists. Cunningham scored seven Thursday versus UT Martin.Â
Dawson, a 6-6 guard from Georgetown, Ky., came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points and nailed all four of his three-pointers – all in the first half – versus UT Martin. He added five points in the comeback win over SEMO Saturday. Dawson was a perfect 5-of-5 on three-pointers this week and shot 86 percent overall.
Morehead State is on the road this week, playing at Tenessee State Thursday and Tennessee Tech Saturday.
