MSU Women Take on Tennessee Tech Saturday

Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State's women wrap up their middle Tennessee swing Saturday as they take on Tennessee Tech for the last time as Ohio Valley Conference foes in the Eblen Center in Cookeville. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.  ET. The game can be heard on the Eagle Sports Network (flagship WIVY 96.3 FM) and can be seen on ESPN+.
 
The Eagles come into Cookeville off a 70-62 loss to Tennessee State Thursday in Nashville. Laura Toffali led the Eagles with 19 points and Kate Dike posted her sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. After a quick start, MSU went cold in the second half, shooting just nine of 31 (29%) from the floor.
 
Tennessee Tech is coming off a 71-69 overtime loss to Southern Indiana Thursday in the Eblen Center. TTU placed four players in double figures, led by Chloe Larry with 23. Freshman LaReesha Cawthorn added 14, Reghan Grimes added 12 and Reagan Hurst chipped in 10.

NOTABLE
  • Morehead State ranks seventh in the Ohio Valley Conference averaging 65.5 points per game. The Eagles rank eighth in the conference allowing 67.3 points per game.
  • Morehead State out-rebounded Tennessee State 33-32 Thursday in Nashville. It was the first game MSU has lost this season when pulling down more rebounds than their opponent. The Eagles are 6-1 when winning the battle on the boards.
  • Landon Forbes was named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week Tuesday for her play the MSU's victories over UT Martin and SEMO last week. Thursday, Forbes posted her first double-double of the season with 16 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. She backed that up Saturday with 15 points against SEMO. For the week, she averaged 15.5 points and seven rebounds per game.
  • Morehead State let the three-balls fly Saturday against SEMO: the Eagles went 10-21 (47.6%) from distance. That percentage was the highest of the season and the second-highest in at least the last five seasons.
  • MSU has hoisted 481 treys so far this season, the most in the OVC. Their 26.7 attempts per game rank 21st in the country. In conference play, the Eagles rank third in the OVC averaging 21.6 three-point shots per game. Tennessee Tech has taken the second-most threes so far in conference play averaging 24.1 per game. Eastern Illinois is averaging 25 trey attempts per game in league games, leading the OVC.
  • The Eagles rank 6th in the OVC hitting 29.3% from three-point range. Kate Dike leads MSU at 17-43 (39.5%) from beyond the arc. Tennessee Tech ranks second in the OVC averaging 33.2% from distance.
  • After the Eagles struggled from the free throw line last Saturday against SEMO, MSU was solid at the charity stripe in Nashville Thursday going 13-17 (77%). Morehead State ranks ninth in the OVC with 67.2% accuracy from the line this season.
  • In conference play, MSU is averaging 70.3% from the line, ranking eighth in the OVC.
  • Morehead State has two players yet to miss from the free throw line: Anja Ekstrom (6-6) and Josefine Enander (6-6). Forbes has gone 21-25 (84%) and Violet McNece is 18-22 (82%) from the line this season. Irene Fernandez Pavesio has gone 6-7.
  • Kate Dike leads Morehead State averaging 14.2 points (6th in the OVC) and 7.2 rebounds (6th in the OVC) per game. She notched her sixth double-double of the season Thursday with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds at Tennessee State.
  • Dike ranks second in the OVC, hitting 51.7% from the field.
  • Laura Toffali is second on the team averaging 12.5 points per game (14th in the OVC).
  • Toffali ranks second in the OVC with 50 steals (2.8 per game). She had four steals Thursday at Tennessee State. She had nine steals against Kentucky Christian on Dec. 28, believed to be the program record.
  • Marie Sepp leads the OVC averaging 4.8 assists per game. Morehead State ranks second in the OVC averaging 14.5 assists per game.
  • Sepp posted the Eagles' first triple-double in a decade in Morehead State's 85-78 loss to Murray State December 3. The senior from Estonia posted 12 points, 10 rebounds and set a career-high with 13 assists.
  • Enander had a breakout game against Kentucky Christian December 28, posting a career-high 23 points. She hit seven of her eight three-point attempts and went 8-13 overall from the floor. She also set career highs with five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
 
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
 
Tennessee Tech is led by Kim Rosamond in her 10th season in Cookeville. Rosamond has a record of 168-123 at TTU. Against Morehead State, Rosamond is 9-9.

The Golden Eagles rank fourth in the OVC averaging 6801 points per game. Defensively, TTU ranks seventh in the conference allowing 62.8 points per game. Tennessee Tech ranks second in the OVC with a +7.1 rebounding margin. They lead the OVC averaging 15.9 offensive rebounds per game.

 
  • Tennessee Tech is paced by Reghan Grimes, averaging 14.6 points per game (5th in the OVC). The senior from Nashville was an All-OVC First Team selection last season leading the team averaging 12.8 points per game.
  • Sophomore Chloe Larry is second on the team averaging 12.8 points per game (10th in the OVC). She was named to the OVC All-Newcomer Team last season averaging 11.5 points per game.
  • Freshman LaReesha Cawthorn ranks second in the conference averaging 9.4 rebounds per game. She scored a career-high 21 points against Middle Tennessee on November 11. Thursday against Southern Indiana, she posted 14 points and tied her career-high with 16 rebounds.
