MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Another down-to-the-wire game unfortunately didn't go the way of the Morehead State men's basketball team Saturday as Lindenwood came from behind in the final 10 seconds to upend the Eagles 79-78 at Johnson Arena.
The Eagles' four-game winning streak was halted as they fell to 12-11 overall and 8-3 in the OVC. The Lions swept the season series ans improved to 14-9 and 8-4 in the conference. MSU fell to 8-2 at home in 2025-26.
Leading 78-75 after
George Marshall hit a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left, the Eagles elected to foul before Lindenwood could fire up a shot. Mehki Cooper hit both tosses, and then the Lions forced a tie-up on the in-bounds play, returning them the ball. With 3.2 seconds, Anias Futrell was fouled driving to the bucket. He hit both free throws.
Chase Dawson's runner from just inside the half-court line went awry as Lindenwood escaped.
The close battle featured six lead changes just in the final 3:30. MSU managed to build a seven-point lead early in the second half and led by five on a couple of occasions but never by more. MSU also led by as much as 11 (36-25) with 3:51 remaining in the first half, but the Lions carved out an 11-3 run to end the half within striking distance at 39.36.
Dawson led the Eagles with 16 points, while Marshall scored 14. He now sits just seven points shy of 1,000 for his college career.
Anouar Mellouk scored 10, marking his fifth straight game in double digits. He also led the team with nine rebounds, but LU won that battle, 34-29.
Futrell led the offensive charge for the visitors, scoring a game-high 26. He also led the Lions with nine rebounds and blocked three shots. Futrell hit five of the Lions' 11 three-pointers as they outscored the Eagles 33-15 on triples. Milos Nenedic scored 21 and corralled seven rebounds.
Morehead State shot 44 percent, while Lindenwood hit 46 percent. The Eagles had a 23-20 advantage in points at the free throw line.
MSU returns to action Thursday at Southeast Missouri.
