Eagle Women Outlast Lindenwood 69-63 to Run Win Streak to Five

Morehead, Ky.-- Morehead State closed out the game with a 9-0 run and outlasted Lindenwood 69-63 Saturday in Johnson Arena in a game that featured 11 ties and 11 lead changes to run their winning streak to five straight games.
 
Lindenwood (16-7, 8-4 OVC) took a 63-30 lead on a Mya Skoff three-point play off a layup and free throw with 2:31 to play. Morehead State responded with their game-ending run kicked off by a Kate Dike turnaround in the lane. Josefine Enander drilled her fifth three-pointer in the game, a jumper from deep in the corner. Landon Forbes closed out the game with four free throws.  
 
Morehead State (14-9, 9-3 OVC) was paced by Laura Toffali with 16 points, Enander finished with 15 points on five of six from three-point range. Marie Sepp added 11 points.  Dike finished with 10 points. Sepp and Forbes both dished out six assists to tie for game honors.
 
Morehead State countered a six-point Lindenwood run to open the game with an 8-0 run of their own and led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter. Lindenwood heated up in the second period shooting 10 of 16 (63%) from the floor and took a 32-29 lead in the intermission.
 
It was Morehead State's turn to heat up out of the halftime break. Morehead State shot 62% 8-13 from the field in the quarter. The Eagles used a 10-0 run capped by a Toffali driving layup at the 1:24 mark to push ahead 50-42. MSU hit five of last six shots to close out the quarter and led 50-46 heading into the final ten minutes.
 
Lindenwood used a 9-3 run to draw even at 53-53 at the 7:55 mark. After a five-point Morehead State run, the Lions ran off seven straight points capped by Skoff's three-point play for LU's final points of the afternoon.
 
The Lions were led by Aleshia Jones with 17 points. Brooke Coffey notched a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Ellie Bruggemann finished with 16 points and Gracie Kelsey pulled down 10 rebounds.
 
Morehead State returns to road next Thursday to visit Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET. The game can be heard on the Eagle Sports Network with Tom Lewis and Wes Holland on the call. It can also be seen on ESPN+.
 
NOTABLE
  • Morehead State shot 26-56 (45%) from the floor, including 9-22 (41%) from three-point range. MSU was potent in the second half shooting 14-27 (52%) from the field and 4-7 (57%) from three-point range. Lindenwood went 24-55 (44%) from the floor and 7-23 (30%) from beyond the arc.
  • The Eagles hit 10-11 (91%) from the free throw line. That's their fourth consecutive game shooting 75% or better from the free throw line. Lindenwood shot 8-9 (89%) from the charity stripe.
  • Lindenwood outrebounded MSU 38-26. The Lions had a 9-2 advantage in second chance points.
  • Morehead State forced 16 Lindenwood turnovers while committing a season-low six. The Eagles edged the Lions 13-10 in points off turnovers.
  • Morehead State outscored the Lions 25-0 in points off the bench.
  • Enander's five made three pointers were the most for Morehead State this season in conference play.
  • Morehead State led for 25:31. Lindenwood led for 7:34.
