Eagle Volleyball Overcomes UT Martin in Tough Four-Setter in Series Opener

Hollan Everett Becomes 23rd Member of MSU 1,000-Kill Club

Morehead, Ky.-- The Morehead State volleyball team got a strong effort at the net and battled back over the University of Tennessee at Martin in the third and fourth sets to take a 3-1 win (25-19, 21 25, 27-25, 30-28) in a hard-fought four-setter in Skyhawk Fieldhouse in Martin, Tennessee Friday night.
 
Morehead State (5-8, 1-2 OVC) recorded a season-high 13 total team blocks, led by Amelia Nott and Haidyn Carter with six blocks apiece to blunt the Skyhawk attack.
 
The Eagle attack was led by senior Hollan Everett, who matched her season high with 21 kills to lead the Eagle attack and also became the 23rd Eagle in program history to record 1,000 career kills at Morehead State. Freshman Ella Warrick posted her fifth career double-double with 11 kills and a match-high 16 digs. Nott added nine terminations for the Eagles.
 
UT Martin (6-8, 1-2 OVC) had a balanced attack with four players who posted double-digit kills paced by Maddy Gladson with 13 terminations. Sophie Diouf and Chyler Martin posted 11 kills each and reigning OVC Rookie of the Week Rylee Key added 10.
 
In the decisive fourth set, there were 18 tied scores and eight lead changes. Morehead State clawed back into the set after a 5-0 UTM run with two 3-0 runs to tie the score at 13-13, spearheaded by four kills by Everett in the sequence. The Eagles ran off another three straight points to push ahead 22-20 and finally closed out the Skyhawks with a Warrick kill and a service ace by Riley McCloskey for the 30-28 set win. Morehead State posted three blocks in the frame to one for UT Martin.
 
Morehead State outlasted UT Martin 27-25 in set three, which featured 14 ties and five lead changes. Both teams went on runs, highlighted by UT Martin running off three straight points to get back into the set at 19-19. The teams traded points and the Eagles closed out the set with a 3-0 run to claim the frame. The Eagles posted seven total team blocks in the frame to four for UT Martin.

In the opening set, Morehead State broke out of a 5-5 tie with a 7-2 run to take a 12-7 lead. UT Martin closed to within two points twice, but the Eagles used two three-point runs down the stretch to close out the frame. Everett led the Eagles with four kills as MSU posted a .267 hitting percentage. UTM was held to a .143 efficiency in the first frame.
 
UT Martin gained some separation in a tightly-contested second set with a late 4-0 run to take a 21-18 lead. The Eagles cut the lead to a single point twice before the Skyhawks closed out the set with a 3-0 run to tie the match. UT Martin posted a .355 hitting percentage in the set, while MSU hit .214.
 
Morehead State and UT Martin will face off Saturday in Skyhawk Fieldhouse at 3:00 p.m. ET. The match can be watched on ESPN+.
 
NOTABLE
  • Amelia Nott and Haidyn Carter led Morehead State with six block assists apiece. That ties Carter's season-high and establishes Nott's season high at the net.
  • Hollan Everett's 21 kills matched her season-high (at Siena on September 5) and was just one away from her career high against Southern Indiana (November 24, 2025, at last year's OVC Tournament).
  • Morehead State posted a .208 hitting percentage. UT Martin hit .161.
  • UT Martin posted a 61-50 advantage in kills in the match.
  • Morehead State had a 5-3 advantage in service aces. Both teams committed 13 service errors.
