Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State middle blocker Haidyn Carter was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Defensive Player of the Week and the OVC's co-Rookie of the Week Monday after voting from the league's sports information directors.

A freshman from Louisville, Carter was dominant at the net in the Eagles' series split with Eastern Illinois last Thursday and Friday in Johnson Arena. Last Thursday, Carter set a new career high with nine total blocks in MSU's sweep over EIU. She also added three kills and posted a .429 hitting percentage, her second-highest percentage of the season.

Carter came back in Friday's marathon five-set Education Day matinee and posted another career-high with 11 total blocks, giving her 20 total blocks for the week.

Carter, who has started every match this season, leads the Ohio Valley Conference with 78 total blocks, averaging 1.07 blocks per set.

The award is Carter's first weekly recognition and the fourth Rookie of the Week award to an Eagle this season.  Morehead State will get back to action Friday as the Eagles travel to Edwardsville, Illinois to take on SIUE. Friday's first serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. Saturday, the Eagles and the Cougars tangle at 3:00 p.m. ET. Both matches are scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+.
