Eagles Look to Bounce Back in the Bayou Against Southern

Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State treks to the bayou for a three-game series with Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET, both Friday and Saturday. Sunday's game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
 
Morehead State is 3-5 on the season after its midweek loss at Northern Kentucky Wednesday. Eagle pitching gave up 15 hits on a blustery, windy day. Alex Kean got his first home run of the season, a grand-slam in the third inning.
 
Southern is 2-6 on the season after dropping a 4-0 decision at New Orleans Wednesday. The Jaguars' pitching staff has posted a 9.71 ERA so far this season. They are hitting .239 as a team. Southern has stolen 28 bases in 32 attempts, led by KJ White, Jr., who is eight for 10 in stolen base attempts.
 
NOTABLE
  • Morehead State ranks fourth in the OVC posting a .290 team batting average.
  • The Eagles' 13 home runs are tied with Little Rock for the most in the OVC.
  • Sophomore infielder Aubrey Kearns has hit safely in all eight games this season, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. He leads Morehead State hitting .469, ranking seventh in the OVC.
  • Kearns 15 hits are tied for second-most in the OVC heading into the season's third weekend. His 25 total bases are second-most in the conference.
  • Freshman outfielder Kyle Krupp has hit safely in six of the seven games he's played in. In four of those games, he rapped out two hits. He's reached base in all seven games.
  • Krupp leads MSU with six stolen bases, tied for the third-most in the OVC.
  • Sophomore catcher Caden Sheridan is hitting .320 on the season with two homers and five runs batted in. He was drawn seven walks, the fifth-highest total in the young season. Sheridan's 16 total bases rank 13th in the OVC.
  • Sheridan has thrown out eight would-be base stealers this season. Opponents are nine of 17 in stolen base attempts so far this season.
  • Morehead State pitching has issued 47 walks so far, the second-most in the OVC.
  • Sophomore pitcher Landon Waugh has held opponents to a .188 batting average through his first two starts this season.
  • Junior Devin Costa has collected two saves so far this season. In six innings pitched, he's allowed five hits and just one run.
  • Costa walked one batter and recorded six strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .238 against Costa
