Eagle Baseball Travels to Louisville Tuesday to Take on the Cards

Morehead, Ky. -- The Morehead State baseball team gets back to action Tuesday when it travels to the Derby City to take on Louisville in Jim Patterson Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET. The game can be seen on ACCNX.
 
Morehead State is coming off an 8-7 win in their series finale against Southern Sunday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Redshirt sophomore and Louisville native Austyn Peak led the Eagle attack going 3 4 at the plate with a double and two runs batted in.  Freshman Luke Hayes got the win out of the bullpen closing out the game with three strong innings, allowing just one while striking out three Jaguar batters.
 
Louisville is coming off a 7-5 win over Central Michigan Sunday, completing a series sweep in Louisville. Cardinal third baseman Hot Bayram went 3-5 at the plate with a home run and a double. Louisville pitching struck out nine batters while walking six.

  • It's been a long road swing for the Eagles to begin the season: Morehead State was scheduled to open at home at Allen Field the opening weekend of the season. The winter storm that swept through the region forced the Eagles to move the series down the road to Winchester at George Rogers Clark High School. The Eagles' home opener is scheduled for March 17 when they host Ohio.
  • Morehead State is hitting .276, tied for sixth in the OVC.
  • Morehead State has drawn just 38 walks through its first 11 games, the second-fewest in the OVC.
  • The Eagles' 15 home runs are tied for the most in the OVC with Little Rock.
  • MSU is 20-24 in stolen base attempts. That's the third-most thefts in the OVC.
  • Morehead State sophomore catcher Caden Sheridan has reached base in all 11 games this season.
  • Sheridan is riding a five-game hitting streak.
  • Redshirt junior Davis Germann is on a five-game hitting streak.  He has reached base in the last nine games.
  • Sophomore infielder Aubrey Kearns leads Morehead State hitting .419 (18-43). He has six multiple-hit games this season.
  • Freshman Nick Griffith had a productive series at Southern last weekend. He went 5-11 (.455) at the plate with a double and a triple and scored three runs.
• Griffith is 8-19 (.421) with runners on base.
• Louisville native Austyn Peak had a nice afternoon Sunday in Baton Rouge against Southern: he went 3-4 at the plate with a triple and two RBI with a run scored.
• Another Louisville native Kyle Krupp has had a solid start to his collegiate career: the St. Xavier graduate is second on the club hitting .333. Krupp is hitting .462 (6-13) as a leadoff hitter.
• Krupp is 4-12 (.333) with runners in scoring position.
