Morehead, Ky. -- The Morehead State baseball team battled a strong pitching performance by SIUE pitchers and came up short 7-2 Saturday at Sonny Allen Field at Prefontaine Park.

Morehead State (10-13, 0-2 OVC) scratched out six hits and left five runners on base.
Davis Germann led the Eagle offense with two hits in four at bats with a run batted in.
Griffin Olson was two of three at the plate with a double.

SIUE (10-13, 2-0 OVC) got a terrific performance from its pitchers. Starting Spencer Stearns (2-2) threw seven innings scattering five hits while allowing two runs (both earned) and picked up the win. He walked one Eagle batter and notched three strikeouts.

Kamden Hawks (1-3) turned in a solid performance in the loss. He threw five innings allowing four runs on four hits. He struck out five and walked five.

SIUE got three runs in the top of the second inning with a two-out rally. After the first two batters were put out, the Cougars drew a walk and got a triple and a home run to dent the scoreboard. SIUE plated another run in the fourth inning on a leadoff triple and a sacrifice fly.

SIUE plated another run in the sixth with a leadoff home run that just cleared the screen in center field to go ahead 5-0.

Morehead State mounted a charge in the bottom of the sixth.
Griffin Olson led off with a double off the screen in right.
Kyle Krupp shot a sharp single through the right to put runners on the corners. Germann hit a drive off the screen in right center to score Olson and move Krupp to third base. Krupp scored on
Ian McCubbin's ground out to the SIUE third baseman.

SIUE got insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings for the final margin. Morehead State couldn't mount a serious rally in the final three innings.
