Eagle Baseball Back on the Road Again to EKU

Morehead, Ky. -- Morehead State Baseball gets back to action Tuesday when it takes on long-time foe Eastern Kentucky at Earle Combs Stadium in Richmond, Kentucky. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. ET.  The game can be watched on ESPN+.
 
Morehead State heads to Richmond looking to get back in the win column after dropping a wild 28-23 decision in its series finale to SIUE Sunday at Allen Field at Prefontaine Park. The teams combed for 52 hits and left a combined 17 runners left on base in the high-octane affair.
 
Eastern Kentucky is also looking to get back into the win column after getting swept at North Alabama over the weekend. The Colonels lost 7-5 Sunday in Florence, Alabama.

  • Morehead State ranks second in the OVC in runs scored (191), hits (252), home runs (40) and triples (9).
  • Morehead State's .303 team batting average ranks third in the OVC. The Eagles have drawn 102 walks, which is fifth-most in the conference. The Eagles have struck out 231 times this season, the most in the OVC.
  • MSU has grounded into 11 double plays this season, the second-fewest in the OVC. Last weekend in the SIUE series, MSU bounced into four DPs, three in Saturday's game.
  • Morehead State's 439 total bases are the most in the OVC. (SIUE's 422 total bases rank second in the league)
  • MSU pitchers have plunked 54 batters this season, the most in the OVC.
  • Morehead State is coming off a wild slugfest Sunday at Allen Field in its series finale with SIUE, a 28-23 loss at Allen Field. The teams combined for 52 hits, including 10 doubles, a triple and 11 home runs.
  • The series finale was MSU's longest game of the season, running 5:02. There were two significant delays; one lasting around a half-hour when the home plate umpire was injured and had to be replaced. The other was due to a player injury that lasted some 15 minutes.
  • Aubrey Kearns leads the Ohio Valley Conference hitting .436; that ranks 12th in the nation.  His .518 on-base percentage ranks second in the OVC.
  • Kearns' 41 hits so far this season are tied for sixth-most in the nation.
  • Kearns has hit safely in 22 of the Eagles' 24 games. He's second in the OVC with nine doubles.
  • Kearns' 71 total bases are second-most in the OVC. He ranks t-23 in the country in total bases.
  • Kearns had a productive week last week in North Carolina, going 10-19 at the plate with four doubles and six runs batted in. He ended the week Sunday at Western Carolina going 5-5 with a double and a run batted in.
  • Kearns leads the club with 28 RBI (4th in the OVC).
  • Kyle Krupp leads Morehead State with 14 stolen bases in 21 attempts and ranks tied for third in the OVC in thefts.
  • Krupp is second on the club hitting .368. He has hit safely in seven of the Eagles' last eight games. He is hitting .524 (11-21) with runners in scoring position.
  • Shortstop Jaden Correa is hitting .310 (4th on the team). His 26 RBI is second on the team and ranks tied for 5th in the OVC.
  • Outfielder Davis Germann ranks third on the team hitting .326. He is riding a five-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 10 of the Eagles' last 11 games.
  • Catcher Caden Sheridan has thrown out 15 would-be base stealers this season, the most in the OVC.
  • Sheridan's leads the team and ranks t-4th in the OVC with eight home runs. He has drawn 17 walks, tied with Alex Kean for most on the most and the sixth-most in the Ohio Valley Conference.
  • Sheridan had a big game Sunday going 3-7 at the plate with a solo home run, a grand slam and five runs batted in.
  • Alex Kean comes into the Ohio game on a 13-game reached base streak, the highest current streak on the team.
  • Reliever Devin Costa has a 5.00 strikeouts to walk ratio and averages 5.87 strikeouts per nine innings and comes into the week with a 1.50 WHIP.
  • Freshman Luke Hayes has impressed early in his collegiate career, posting a 2-1 record with a save. He's walked 11 batters and struck out 20 while posting an 11.82 K/9 inn. ratio and a 1.78 WHIP. Opponents are hitting .271 against him.
