Morehead, Ky. -- The Morehead State baseball team returns home for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series with UT Martin beginning Thursday at Allen Field at Prefontaine Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. ET, both Thursday and Friday. Saturday's start is set for 2:05 p.m. ET. (Game times may be fluid as there are predictions of inclement weather this weekend in Morehead. Any changes will be announced on msueagles.com and MSU Athletics social media pages) All games are scheduled to be aired on ESPN+.
Morehead State got an 8-5 win at Eastern Illinois Sunday to avoid a sweep in Charleston.
Ian McCubbin led the Eagle offense by going three for five at the plate with a run batted in. Freshman second baseman
Nick Griffith got two hits in five at bats, including his third home run of the season and three runs batted in.
The Eagles got strong pitching performances from freshman starter
Connor Davis and reliever
Devin Costa. Davis went 5.2 innings, scattering eight hits and allowed five runs (only two earned). Costa mopped up the sixth inning and did not allow a hit or a walk in the final three innings, striking out two EIU batters to pick up his second win of the season.
UT Martin picked up its fifth win in a row with a 22-4 victory over Alabama A&M Tuesday in Martin, Tennessee.
The Skyhawks completed a weekend series sweep of Lindenwood Sunday in Martin. The Skyhawks pounded out 17 hits and downed the Lions 15-7. Right fielder TJ Grines went 3-5 at the plate with two home runs and three runs batted in. He also scored four runs. Shortstop Andrew Lawrence was also 3-5 at the plate with a double and two runs batted in.
Lawrence was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in the Skyhawks four games last week. On the week he hit .563 (9-16) with three doubles, two home runs and eight runs batted in. He also scored six times.

Morehead State has a record of 64-24 against UT Martin all-time. In Morehead, the Eagles are 36-10 against the Skyhawks. MSU is 31-17 against UTM in Martin.
The teams first met on April 3, 1993, in Martin, where MSU won the opener of the three-game series 4-3. The Eagles won the first 15 games against the Skyhawks. UTM finally broke through with a 4 3 win on March 23, 1997, in the series finale in Martin.
The last time the teams met, UTM got by MSU 13-9 last April 19 in Martin to clinch the series 2-1. The last time the teams played in Morehead, the Eagles dropped a wild one, 22-20 in 11 innings, the Skyhawks avoiding a series sweep.

- Junior outfielder Ian McCubbin has heated up as of late. In the Eagles' last eight games, he hit 14-35 (.400) with two home runs, three doubles, a triple and 14 RBI.
- McCubbin has played and started in 20 of the Eagles 28 games. He's hitting .315 (23-73) with four home runs and 21 RBI.
- Shortstop Jaden Correa is tied with Sheridan for team honors with eight home runs this season. They are tied for 6th-most in the OVC. Correa's 31 RBI is second on the club and ranks tied for seventh in the OVC.
- Third baseman Griffin Olson has 11 stolen bases in 12 attempts. That ranks eighth in the OVC.
- Scheduled game one starter Callum McGill will be making his third appearance of the season. Last Tuesday he got the start at Eastern Kentucky, going three innings allowing three hits while walking one and striking out two Colonels.
- Probable game two starter Kamden Hawks is second on the club with 24 strikeouts this season, averaging 8.1 strikeouts per nine innings this season. He threw a season-high 102 pitches last Saturday at Eastern Illinois, throwing into the sixth inning in getting a no-decision.
- Freshman Connor Davis is scheduled to make his eighth start of the season Saturday. Last Sunday at Eastern Illinois, he pitched into the sixth inning, getting two outs. He scattered eight hits, giving up five runs (only two earned). He walked four and struck out one. He threw a season-high 103 pitches in the game, 63 of which were strikes.
- Junior Devin Costa has been solid for the Eagles out of the bullpen, posting a 2-1 record with two saves and a 3.86 ERA. He picked up the win Sunday at Eastern Illinois, pitching the final 3.1 innings allowing just one base runner, who reached on an infield error. He struck out two batters.
- Costa has allowed just two walks and 17 hits in 18.1 innings pitched for a 1.23 WHIP, which leads the team. He has a 6.00 strikeouts to walks ratio, by far the best on the team.
