MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State Men's Golf Team competed in the Carpenter-Chaney Classic on Saturday, finishing first after
Gavin Augenstein's birdie claimed the crown.
The match-play tournament took place in Paris, Ky., over the par-72, 6.842-yard Houston Oaks Golf Club Course.Â

In the opening round, Morehead State's Gold Team beat Bellarmine 3-1-1.
Logan Liles tied Ben Wulkopf.
Logan McCormick beat Peyton Bonny in a 3&2Â result, leading with two holes to play.
Remy Stalcup fell to Ben Davenport with a result of 1UP. Augenstein beat Landon Stillwell in a 4Up decision. Finally,
Seamus Bogan beat Kash Albarado with a 3&1 decision as the final match of Bellarmine versus Morehead State Gold.
Continuing, Morehead State's Blue Team lost to UT Martin 4-1.
Mitchell Gastright defeated John-Gregory Wilson in a 4&2 decision. Drew Williams defeated
Colten Wilson with a decision of 5&4. Bryce Harmon beat
Clifton Scully, also with a score of 5&4. Grant Phillips defeated
Evan Taylor in a 2&1 decision. Finally, Luke Caldwell defeated
Jace Patrick in a 4&3 scorecard.Â
In the consolation match (Morehead State Blue Team versus Bellarmine), the Eagles came out on top 3-2. Wulkopf defeated Scully with a 5&4 result, and Stillwell defeated Taylor with a 6&5 result. But, Wilson defeated Bonny in a 3&1 decision,
Jace Patrick defeated Ben Davenport in a 3&2 decision, and
Mitchell Gastright defeated Kash Albarado with a 5&4 win to claim the consolation victory.
Finally, in the championship match, the Eagles edged out UT Martin to claim their first ever Carpenter-Chaney Classic victory. McCormick started the Eagles off with a 1UP victory over Bryce Harmon. UT Martin tied things up, with John-Gregory Wilson defeating Stalcup 1UP on the 20th hole. Stalcup and Wilson were tied going into extra holes, but Stalcup's bogey on hole 20 (hole two) aided Wilson the victory.
Williams defeated Liles with a birdie on hole 18 to put UT Martin up, 2-1. Bogan knocked off Caldwell 3&2Â through 16 holes, to tie it up at 2-2.Â
It all came down to the final match up with Augenstein versus Phillips. Phillips led 2UP after the first eight holes. He double-bogeyed hole nine, while Augenstein birdied the hole to bring himself back within one. Phillips bogeyed hole 10, and double-bogeyed hole 11, compared to Augentein's bogey on hole 11, which officially shifted the standings, putting Augenstein up. Phillips' birdie on hole 17 pushed the score to even, forcing extra holes. On the 19th hole (hole one, par 5), Augenstein put the ball on the green within two strokes, and two putted to record a birdie and claim the Carpenter-Chaney Classic trophy for Morehead State.Â
The Eagles will be back in action right away this week at the Bluegrass Collegiate Invitational in Lexington, Ky., on Monday and Tuesday.
