RESULTS (EIU | UTM)
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Beach volleyball split a pair of hard-fought matches on day one of the final Ohio Valley Conference beach weekend. The Eagles upended Eastern Illinois 3-2 before falling to UT Martin 4-1 in the final match of the busy six-match day on campus.
MSU is now 4-4 in the league and 8-15 overall.Â
Against EIU, with the match tied at 2-2, the No. 1 duo of
M.E. Hargan and
Bella Marita finished off their Panther foes 21-6 and 26-24 in a long battle on center court.
MSU also got victories from the No. 2 and No. 5 pairs. At No. 2,
Shea Hefner and
Sarah Heath triumphed in a three-setter, 21-13, 17-21, 15-7. On court five,
Logan Smith and
Sydney Sennett prevailed 21-11, 21-11. MSU won the No. 6 exhibition as well where
Addie Freed and
Lily-Kate Carver earned a 21-17 win in both sets.
Against UT Martin, MSU's lone win came when No. 3 partners
Landyn Snowden and
Hollan Everett outlasted their opponents 22-20, 15-21, 15-12. The Eagles also had another three-set showdown, but Sennett and Smith finally fell 16-14 in the finale after splitting the first two frames and winning 21-18 in the first. The Eagles' No. 6 pair of
Tinsley Brown and
Cady Hatch earned a 21-19, 21-13 win.
Due to forecasted inclement weather on Saturday, the day's schedule has been moved up to begin at 7 a.m. All matches will be played to decision (three points), so MSU's first match will be approximately 8:30 a.m.-9 a.m. ET against Lindenwood.
