Eagle Baseball to Host Southern Indiana in Weekend OVC Set

Morehead State Baseball returns to action this weekend as the Eagles host Southern Indiana in a three-game series beginning Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., ET Friday. The game is scheduled to be aired on ESPN+; airtime is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET.
 
Morehead State is coming off an 11-2 win over Marshall Wednesday in Huntington. The Eagles pounded out 18 hits in the game, led by Davis Germann who went five for six at the plate with a double and four runs batted in. JJ Dutton banged out four hits in five at-bats with a double and an RBI.
 
Freshman Sam Smith got his second win of the season pitching his first start and going two innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Senior Ethan Davis was effective; he relieved Smith and threw five and a third shutout innings allowing just two hits and notching three strikeouts. 
 
Southern Indiana took on cross-town rival Evansville Wednesday at USI Baseball Field. The Screaming Eagles broke open the game with four runs in the fifth inning and an eight-run outburst in the sixth and won 14-4 in seven innings.
 
USI, was led by first baseman Patrick McClellan, who went 3-4 at the plate with a double and designated hitter Micah Wall, who was 2-3 at the plate with five RBI. Six USI pitchers combined to allow four hits and four walks and struck out nine Evansville batters.

  • Catcher Caden Sheridan has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games. He's tied with Kearns for second on the team with 10 home runs. They rank seventh in the OVC.
  • Sheridan has gunned down 19 would-be base stealer this season, leading the OVC.
  • Friday's projected starter Callum McGill will be making his sixth start of the season. He got his first win of the season against UT Martin on April 2 at Allen Field. He threw five innings, allowing five runs on six hits, walking two and striking out two.
  • In McGill's last outing last Friday against Lindenwood, he allowed three runs on six hits in four innings of work. He walked two and struck out two.
  • Saturday's projected starter Cole Wells will be making his third start of the season. Last Sunday against Lindenwood, he allowed two runs on three hits while striking out two in 1.2 innings pitched.
  • Sunday's projected starter Connor Davis took the loss last Sunday against Lindenwood. Three weeks back against UT Martin, he picked up his third win of the season allowing two runs on four hits in six innings pitched. He walked one and struck out one.
