MOREHEAD, Ky. – Freshman
Kalynn Pease set another school record and senior
Kaylyn Holman moved farther up the all-time list as the Morehead State track and field pair led the Eagles over the first two days of the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational at the Owsley B. Frazier Cardinal Park in Louisville, Ky.
On Thursday, Pease bettered her long jump mark by a foot to capture the Flight A title. Her leap of 21'05.25" moved her into a tie for seventh nationally.
Yet, Pease was not the only standout. On Friday, Holman placed 12th collegiately and 13th overall in the 800-meter run with a "pr" of 2:16.12 to move into sixth on the school's all-time performer's list.
The pair were two of 16 Eagles in action at the meet. Most of the team will compete in Saturday's events.
Pease went over 20 feet on all her official jumps, although she fouled on her second and fourth attempts and passed on the final one. On her first attempt, she recorded a 6.13m/20'01.50" leap, bettering it on her third effort, which landed at 6.45m/21'02.00". Her fifth mark was a 6.53/21'05.25".
However, like she did when she set the previous school record of 20'05.00", she reached the distance aided by the wind. On Thursday, her winning jump had a 3.3 mile per hour gust which exceeds the allowable limit for official records.
Although she won her Flight, among all women's long jumpers at the meet, she tied Louisville's Eve Divinity at 6.53m. Divinity won the Flight B competition held on Friday. Thursday's runner up was Ella Scally, who was jumping unattached, at 6.44m/21'01.50". Western Michigan's Sandra Ferrari was the next-best finishing collegian, as she registered a 6.27m/20'07.00".
Holman ran in the third heat and finished second to Dayton's Anna Newkirk (2:14.77). Holman covered the first lap in 1:06.60 and came home in 1:09.52. It was her "pr" by 35-hundredths of a second. Last year, she set a then-"pr" of 2:18.36 to place 30th. She is sixth all-time at MSU. Julie Rice has the fifth-best time of 2:14.10, set in 1975. Natalie Norman holds the record with a 2:11.45, a mark she reached in 2013.

Carr set a "pr" in the 200-meter dash, winning his heat and finishing 49th overall and 52nd collegiately, with a time of 22.66. It was his first 200m of the season and he bettered his previous top mark by nine-thousandths of a second.
Blair finished 19th collegiately and 21st overall in the 71-person 800m, crossing the line in 1:54.97 for his third sub-1:55 this year. Last year, he was 44th in 1:57.90. On Friday, Blair was edged at the line by former Eagle Kyle Crady's twin brother, Sean, who placed 20th in 1:54.92.
Witt was second in his heat of the 200m, falling just three-thousandths of a second behind Notre Dame (Ind.)'s Evan Hudson, and placing 46th collegiately and 48th overall in 22.46 overall, which was his "pr" by six-thousandths of a second.
