MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State's Beach Volleyball team earned two victories at the EKU Sand Fest on Friday, knocking off Liberty 4-1 and shutting out Ottawa (Kan.) 5-0.
MSU improved to 7-14 on the season.
Against Liberty, the Eagles claimed a trio of straight-set wins against the Flames. At No. 1,
M.E. Hargan and
Bella Marita cruised to a 21-10, 21-14 win. Over on court four,
Logan Smith and
Sydney Sennett posted a convincing 21-12, 21-4 triumph. At No. 5
Cady Hatch and
Landyn Snowden teamed up for a 21-10, 21-16 winning showing.
In the No. 6s,
Lily-Kate Carver and
Addie Freed also won, recording a 21-14, 22-20 decision.
Two of the matches went the full three, but the Eagles pulled out wins. At No. 2,
Sarah Heath and
Shea Hefner won 21-11, 14-21, 15-7.
Amelia Nott and
Haylee DePonte won their second set 21-15 after dropping the first in an identical score, but Liberty's duo edged the Eagle pair 15-12 in the finale.
The Eagles won all their matches against Ottawa (0-17) in straight sets. Hargan and Marita lapped their foes 21-8, 21-8. Hefner and Heath also won by the exact same margins in match No. 2. Smith and Sennett nearly made it three straight 21-8, 21-8 wins, at No. 5, but gave up just one additional point to win 21-9, 21-8.Â
Snowden and
Bailey Brashear played No. 4 and claimed a 21-13, 21-15 victory. Nott and DePonte finished off the shut out with a straight-setter at No. 3.Â
Freed and Hatch won the 6s 21-12, 21-16.
MSU is off next weekend before returning home to host OVC weekend No. 2 on April 17-18.
