MOREHEAD, Ky, -- The Morehead State Men's Golf Team is kicking off its 2026 fall campaign in Florence, Ind., competing in the Chaney-Denham-Landrum Shootout, hosted by all three competing teams (MSU, Bellarmine, NKU). The tournament will take place on Monday, August 31.
This tournament is played in the honor of three incredible coaches. Dr. Rex Chaney (Morehead State), Ernie Denham (Bellarmine), and Daryl Landrum (Northern Kentucy).
The single-day event over the par-71, 6,925-yard Belterra Golf Club Course will be a 36-hole stroke-play event.
The Eagles had a great spring, filled with some very memorable moments.
Returners
Seamus Bogan and
Remy Stalcup both tied for seventh at the Savannah Intercollegiate in February, each climbing 19 spots on the final day to finish the tournament five over par.
In the following tournament, Bogan turned in a record-breaking finish of 66-69-69--204 (-12) to sweep the competition and secure his first career first place finish in the Jackrabbit Invitational. Bogan was six strokes ahead of the next closest competitor, winning by a drastic margin. His score of 12 under par was the second best performance in the past 15 years of Morehead State Golf.
Returner
Gavin Augenstein helped lead the Eagles to victory in the Keene Trace Collegiate, in which he earned his first career top-five finish (tied-5th) and helped MSU finish first out of seven competing schools.
Finally, MSU etched out the ultimate team victory in the Carpenter-Chaney Classic in April, taking down UT Martin in the championship round.
Morehead State features seven returnees, including
Mitchell Gastright,
Evan Taylor,
Jace Patrick and
Clifton Scully.
The Eagles also welcomed four transfers:
Braydon Bond (Kentucky Wesleyan),
Brycen Farris (South Dakota School of Mines),
Wynn Flynt (Centre [Ky.]), and
Sebastian Pell (Rider). Freshman
Clay Noble also joins the Eagles out of Lafayette High School in Lexington, Kentucky.
Head Coach
Matthew Martin highlights his excitement for the season to get underway.
"We are eager and ready to start the season against NKU and Bellarmine," Martin followed. "It's rare for the entire team to get a chance to compete, and I am grateful we have the opportunity to do it right out of the gate."
