Volleyball Faces off with Marshall in Final Non-Conference Action of Season

Morehead, Ky.-- The Morehead State volleyball wraps up the non-conference portion of its schedule with a pair of matches against nearby Marshall Friday and Saturday.  
 
The Eagles will trek to Huntington, W.Va., on Friday. First serve at the Cam Henderson Center is set for 5:00 p.m. ET. Saturday, the Eagles and the Herd will tangle on the Family Leisure.com court in Ellis T. Johnson Arena for a 2:00 p.m. start. Both matches are scheduled to be streamed live on the ESPN+.

NOTABLES
 
  • Morehead State head coach Kyrsten Becker-McBride is in her fourth season as head coach and her 16th season with the program. She has a record of 63-41 overall and a 38-16 Ohio Valley Conference record. She has guided her team to the OVC tournament finals twice and a berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2024.
  • Morehead State ranks fifth in the OVC after two weekends of play with 276 kills (11.83 kills per set). The Eagles rank fourth in the conference with a .210 attack efficiency. MSU ranks third in the OVC allowing a .228 opponent hitting percentage.
  • The Eagles topped the OVC in 2025 with 193 service aces averaging 1.80 aces per set. Amelia Nott smacked 44 aces, averaging 0.41 aces per set. She ranked third in the OVC last fall, and her career tally is the second-most in program history in the modern era.
  • Currently the Eagles are third in the OVC with 53 aces on the season, averaging 1.77 aces per set. Freshman Ella Warrick leads the OVC with 15 service aces.
  • Amelia Nott's name dots the MSU record book in several categories for the modern era: her 126 career aces are second-most in the program, her 282 block assists rank eighth and 315 total blocks both rank seventh. Her .294 career hitting percentage edges out Irene Wogenstahl (who posted a career .291 hitting percentage from 2020-24) for the top spot in the Eagle record book for the modern era.
  • Nott leads MSU and ranks 2nd in the OVC with 27 total blocks averaging 0.90 blocks per set. She also ranks 10th in the conference with 87 kills, averaging 2.90 kills per set.
  • Senior setter Sydney Sennett was an All-OVC First Team selection last season after posting 1,089 assists in the 2025 campaign, which ranks as the eighth-highest season total in the modern era at MSU. Her 10.18 assists per set rate ranked second in the Ohio Valley Conference.
  • Sennett has 2,184 career assists, which ranks fifth in program history for the modern, 25-point rally scoring era.
  • Senior outside hitter Hollan Everett was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week on September 7 for her play in the Mercyhurst Invitational. Everett slammed 45 kills (4.09 kills per set) while posting an outstanding .394 hitting percentage over the three matches. She also added eight total blocks on the weekend. Everett ranks second in the OVC with 103 kills (3.81 kills per set). Everett was an All-OVC Second Team selection in 2025. She was second on the team last season with 335 kills, averaging 3.13 kills per set, which ranked 10th in the OVC last season. She leads the Eagles with 103 kills, averaging 3.67 kills per set (ranking 2nd in the OVC) with a .277 attack efficiency.
  • Everett tallied 62 total blocks last season. Her 21 block solos led MSU and tied for 10th-most in the modern era. She has 40 career block solos, sixth-most in the modern era in program history.
  • Freshman Ella Warrick made an immediate splash in her first two weekends at Morehead State: she was named the OVC Rookie of the Week September 7 for her play at the Mercyhurst Invitational. In the Eagles' three matches, Warrick smacked 34 kills, tallied 27 digs, and posted nine service aces. She capped the weekend by setting a career-high with 15 kills, posting her fourth career double-double with 12 digs.
  • Freshman Haiden Carter also made an impression in her Eagle debut: in the season opener against Fairfield, she led MSU with five total blocks and added seven kills with a .375 attack efficiency. In the opening weekend finale against Colgate, she again led MSU with five total blocks. Carter ranks second on the team with 24 total blocks; she ranks 6th in the OVC averaging 0.80 blocks per set.
  • Senior Courtney Fitzgerald joined the 1,000-dig club in the opening weekend of the season against Fairfield. She became the 30th Eagle to amass over 1,000 digs. Heading into play this week, she ranks sixth MSU record book in the modern era with 1,092 digs.
 
 
SCOUTING THE THUNDERING HERD
 
  • Cincinnati is coached by Heather Stout, who is in her third season in Huntington. Stout guided the Herd to a 15-15 record in the 2025 campaign after posting a 15-14 mark in her first year at Marshall. Prior to taking over the reins at Marshall, Stout spent the previous three season at Division III Catholic College.
  • The Herd attack is led by Maddie Smith, who leads Marshall with 105 kills, ranking sixth in the Sun Belt, while posting a .333 hitting percentage. Smith spent the previous two seasons at Appalachian State; she got off to a fast start in her freshman campaign (2024), posting double-digit kill totals in four of her first six collegiate matches.  Last weekend, she tied her career high with 18 kills while posting a .441 hitting percentage against Belmont in Durham, N.C.
  • Sophomore Emma Barnett has slugged 92 kills through the Herd's first nine matches, averaging 2.88 kills per set ranking ninth in the Sun Belt. She also leads Marshall with 12 aces. Last season as a true freshman, she led the team with 331 kills averaging 3.09 kills per set. She also led the Herd with 30 service aces and was second on the team with 254 digs. She was named to the All-Sun Belt Third Team.
  • Middle Blocker Beatrice Ciccarelli leads Marshall with 36 total blocks. She is also third on the team with 75 kills, posting a .314 hitting percentage. Last season, the Bologna, Italy native led the Herd with 110 total blocks and was an All-SBC Second Team selection.
 
 
EAGLE MILESTONE WATCH
 
  • Hollan Everett is 56 kills shy of becoming the 23rd member of the 1,000-kill club at Morehead State. With 944 career kills, she ranks eighth in the MSU record book for the modern era (2008-present)
  • Amelia Nott has posted 282 career block assists, 18 shy of the 300-mark. She ranks seventh in the MSU record book for the modern era.
  • Sydney Sennett comes into this week's matches with 2,184 career assists, which ranks fifth in the modern era. She is 20 helpers shy of fourth, passing Colbey Cameron, who played for Morehead State from 2011-14.
  • Courtney Fitzgerald enters the week's matches with 83 career service aces. She is 15 shy of tying former teammate and last season's OVC Player of the Year M.E. Hargan for 10th in the MSU record book for the modern era.
