Seamus Bogan Finishes Tied For 3rd, Eagles Finish 9th at Dolenc Invitational

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Seamus Bogan's excellent performance earned him a tie for third, as the Morehead State golf team finished ninth at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational.

Bogan carded a 68-68-69—205 (-8), marking the sixth-best tournament performance by a Morehead State golfer over the past 15 seasons based on final score and score relative to par.

"We certainly did not have our best this week," said Head Coach Matthew Martin. "However, I am proud of the resilience and fight our guys showed throughout.  And Seamus played very well for the entire event."

The tournament took place in Madison, Ill., over the par-71, 6,985 yard Gateway National Golf Links course. It began on Monday, Sept. 28 with 36 holes, and wrapped up with the final 18 on Sept. 29. 

Bradley finished first in a close battle with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and The University of Tennessee at Martin. The competition was fierce, featuring seven schools finishing anywhere from one stroke to 15 strokes under par. 

The tournament featured eight current Ohio Valley Conference schools, with three finishing ahead of Morehead State: SIUE, UT Martin and Western Illinois.

Morehead State finished with a final score of 285-282-290—857 (+5). Despite placing ninth among 17 competing teams, the Eagles' score ranked as the 15th-best tournament score by the program over the past 15 seasons.

In round one, Bogan led the Eagles with a 68 (-3), recording four birdies against just one bogey. Gavin Augenstein and Remy Stalcup followed with matching 72s (+1). Augenstein and Stalcup each recorded an eagle,, with Augenstein carding his on the third hole and Stalcup on the 18th. Sebastian Pell finished one stroke behind them with a 73 (+2).

Once again, Bogan led the Eagles in round two, posting an identical 68 (-3) with four birdies and one bogey. Mitchell Gastright also finished under par, carding a 70 (-1). Augenstein finished even with a 72, once again recording an eagle, this time on the 18th hole. 

Finally, in the third round, Bogan led the Eagles for the third consecutive round, shooting a 69 (-2).

Bogan earned his fourth career top-five finish and his third career top-three finish! Stalcup (72-73-73—218), Gastright (75-70-74—219), Pell (73-74-74—221) and Augenstein (72-71-80—223) also competed for the Eagles. Individual Brycen Farris (76-78-78—232) rounded out the MSU field.

Gastright finished tied for third in par-3 scoring average (2.93), while Bogan tied for third in par-4 scoring average (3.89), tied for seventh in par-5 scoring average (4.42) and tied for fifth in pars (38). Augenstein tied for first in eagles, recording one in both the first and second rounds.

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 2, at The Indy at Forest Hills, an individuals competition.
