MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State football student-athletes
David Parsons and
Cross Watson earned Pioneer Football League weekly honors on Sunday. Parsons was tabbed the league's Offensive Player of the Week, while Watson earned the second-ever official PFL Freshman of the Week accolade.
Parsons, a redshirt sophomore from Parkersburg, W.Va., had his second straight 300+ yard passing game, throwing for 304 yards on 10-of-14 passing with five touchdowns in the 75-24 rout over Kentucky Christian Thursday. He helped Watson and fellow wideout
Anthony Ice both go over the 100-yard receiving plateau, the second straight game with two Eagle pass catchers higher than 100 yards.
Following a pair of games, Parsons ranks first among all FCS quarterbacks in points responsible for (60) while ranking second in the nation in passing yards per game (383.5). He also ranks third in the FCS in total offense per game (423.0).Â
Playing in just his second career collegiate game, Watson - from Campbellsville, Ky., Hauled in four catches and three were for touchdowns. He piled up 132 yards through the air. Watson opened the 75-point outburst with a 60-yard touchdown from Parsons early in the first quarter. Later on he caught a 25-yard score from Parsons, and then added a 40-yard TD catch from
Bryce Patterson late in the first half.
Morehead State ventures on the road for the first time this season Saturday at Austin Peay. Game time is 5 p.m. ET.
