Morehead State University Cheer is home to the most decorated collegiate cheer program in the country with 53 National Titles! We are constantly looking for THE Best of the Best to fill our three competitive teams - All-Girl,
Smo-Head, and Coed.
There are no out-of-pocket expenses to be an MSU Cheerleader beyond travel expenses to and from campus and most of your meals during our summer and winter training. All cheerleaders that make the Morehead State University Cheer Program at tryouts are eligible for athletic scholarships. Most all-girl cheerleaders receive $500 in tuition assistance per year while most coed cheerleaders receive $750 per year. Further scholarship money is available for returning cheerleaders, people who excel in the MSU classroom with a GPA of 3.0 or better, and also based on financial need. The MSU cheer program is under the supervision of the MSU Athletic Department, and all cheerleaders must comply with NCAA requirements for academic success and progress (even though they are not technically NCAA athletes). This means that each athlete must complete 12 hours a semester and maintain a 2.0 GPA to remain an active member of the program. MSU Athletics has an academic success building - the Eagle Center - where all athletes can study, access computers and printers, and also receive FREE tutoring.
MSU Coed and
Smo-Head cheer for football and men's basketball home games. MSU All-Girl cheers for football Homecoming and all home women's basketball games. All three teams compete in January at the UCA College National Championships in Orlando, FL. MSU Cheer just had a historic 2023 nationals bringing home a sweep in Division I! MSU Cheer won their first Small Coed Div I title, their 30

I am very proud of how all our athletes competed this year as we won our program's 51st, 52nd, and 53rd National Titles! Our expectation each year is that every MSU Cheer team will be the front-runner in their respective divisions, and we fully intend on winning #14, #31, and #2 in 2024. Each MSU Cheer team is extremely competitive to make, and we train rigorously to maintain the winning tradition that is Morehead State Cheer.
If you are serious about becoming an MSU Cheerleader, please fill out this Recruit Questionnaire. That way you will be officially registered as an MSU Cheer Recruit and be the first to hear about upcoming clinics and information about tryouts.

If you have a skills video, please e-mail head coach Mark Coleman at m.coleman@moreheadstate.edu. We would love to see the level of skill that you possess as a cheerleader. Understand that all MSU cheerleaders are required to have a solid standing back tuck and almost all of our athletes have a full twisting layout. However, the most important characteristic that we look for in our athletes is a competitive spirit and a willingness to WORK HARD.
Please let us know if you have any other questions or would like to try-out for THE best collegiate cheer program in the world!
