WHAT IS THE BLUE-GOLD ALLIANCE?
The Blue and Gold Alliance is designed to raise funds to provide Alston Awards to student athletes that support academic achievement and encourage student-athletes to take full advantage of the academic experience at Morehead State University.

This new opportunity is the latest addition to MSU Athletics and the MSU Foundation’s ongoing commitment to support a nationally competitive program and to continue to invest in the student-athlete experience. As with funding scholarships and academic support, donor contributions will be needed to fund this $840,000 new annual investment. As the landscape of college athletics continues to evolve, this opportunity will ensure that Morehead State Athletics can continue to recruit the very best student athletes.

WHY JOIN THE ALLIANCE
Alston Awards are now available to student-athletes as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in NCAA v. Alston, which allows all institutions the ability to reward student-athletes for academic achievement up to $5,980 annually. The Blue and Gold Alliance will facilitate new growth opportunities across all areas of the student-athlete experience.

Not only do these awards reinforce the University’s focus on a well-rounded educational experience, but they are also an important aspect of the recruiting process. As the landscape of Athletics is changing across the country, these awards in addition to scholarship offers, Morehead State University coaches will need to have the same ability to remain competitive in the recruiting process.

Student-athletes are now eligible to receive these awards, and full implementation of this effort across all sports will be dependent on fundraising success. Gifts to the Blue and Gold Alliance Fund are encouraged to be in addition to regular commitments to the donor’s other annual fund commitments. Gifts to the Blue and Gold Alliance do not qualify donors to ticket and parking benefits but do count toward donor recognition benefits from the MSU Foundation.

NIL Clarification

NIL Clarification: The Blue and Gold Alliance Fund for Alston Awards is not an NIL (Name, image, Likeness) Program. MSU Athletics has determined that participation in a Student Education Enhancement program through the Alston awards, in partnership with the MSU Foundation, is the best solution for MSU, our student athletes and our donors. Teams and student athletes may still participate in NIL agreements with interested donors and business, but these transactions are to be managed on an individual basis.
