Kane Sweeney, a member of MSU's 2015 OVC Championship team, is in his third year now as an assistant coach.
He works with the Eagle hitters and position players.
Sweeney helped the 2018 team to the OVC Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Clemson Regional. Under his guidance, the Eagle hitters continued on their torrid pace from recent years, ranking in the NCAA top 20 in a majority of offensive categories.
Sweeney is a 2015 MSU graduate and was a 29th round draft pick by the New York Yankees following a phenomenal career that put his name all over the MSU record books.
Sweeney ended his career at MSU as a two-time All-OVC performer and is currently in the top five in the MSU record books for games played, plate appearances, at bats, hits, total bases and RBI. Sweeney is the program's career leader in walks with 148 free passes.
He spent two years in the Yankees' organization with stops in the Appalachian League, New York-Penn League and the South Atlantic league.
In 105 career games in the Yankees' organization, Sweeney hit .290 with 25 doubles, eight homers and 71 RBI.
Sweeney spent 2017 with the Washington Wild Things in the Frontier League, where he was an All-Star. He batted .296 with 21 doubles, 15 home runs and 61 RBI and a .457 on-base percentage.
He spent the fall of 2017 as the hitting coach and assistant coach at the University of Illinois-Springfield.
Sweeney spent the Fall of 2015 as a student assistant at MSU while completing his degree.
