Tyler Jackson returns for his fifth season to the Morehead State staff.
Elevated to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2025 season, Jackson serves as the hitting coach and assists in defensive alignment/structure and scouting as well. In 2023, under Jackson’s guidance, the Eagles set the new school record for fielding percentage (.973).
The Eagles were also potent at the plate, leading the Ohio Valley Conference in home runs (97), triples (19), total bases (948) and slugging percentage (.508). Under Jackson’s tutelage, Ryley Preece posted the first 20 HR/20 SB season in program history, and Jackson Feltner was drafted in the eighth rounds of professional baseball draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks after being named First Team All-OVC and leading the Eagles in batting average for the third straight season.
In 2024, Jackson again helped the Eagles as they set new school records with 571 runs, 129 home runs, 1,230 total bases and 321 walks. Roman Kuntz set new school and conference records with 33 home runs, 100 runs batted in and 202 total bases. Kuntz also set the career mark at Morehead State with 191 runs batted in. Second baseman Nick Gooden won the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove for second basemen.
Other players under his guidance also dot the MSU record books: Preece set MSU records with 54 career home runs, and 507 total bases over his career. He also set both season and career records for walks with 60 and 172.
Alex Jacobs set the Morehead State record by reaching base in 52 straight games, and Colton Becker piled up 52 career stolen bases.
Prior to his arrival at Morehead State, he helped Liberty to the finals of an NCAA regional in 2021. The Flames won two games in the Knoxville regional, eliminating Duke to reach the finals against host Tennessee.
Prior to Liberty, Jackson served six seasons as assistant coach at North Greenville (S.C.). From 2015-20, Jackson helped the Crusaders raise their team batting average from .236 to better than .300 his final season. He was a part of 212 wins, averaging 35 wins per year. The team won 29 games in 2015, a year after only eight wins the previous season.
In 2014, Jackson was a member of the College of Charleston staff that guided the team to 44 wins, a Colonial Athletic Association championship and advanced all the way to the Lubbock (Texas) Super Regional.
He also served two years as head coach of the summer league Wilmington Sharks in the Coastal Plain League.
As a student-athlete, Jackson began his career at Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist, where he was an all-region pick, before moving on to the College of Charleston. In 2012, he helped the Cougars to an NCAA regional.
He is a 2014 graduate of the College of Charleston with a Bachelor’s Degree in public health.
