Brett Rude is in his eighth season on the Morehead State football coaching staff, and his fifth as a full-time assistant.
Rude served as a graduate assistant in 2011 and 2012, working with the offensive line while completing his master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education.
He led the tight ends in 2013 and added Running Backs/Assistant Special Teams Coordinator in 2014, leading the kickoff return unit that produced All-Pioneer Football League First-Team selection return specialist Justin Cornwall.
After returning to MSU in 2017, Rude took over the role of Offensive Line Coach/Video Coordinator, while mentoring Liam Maloney to an All-Pioneer Football League Second-Team selection at offensive line.
Rude added Run Game Coordinator to his duties in the 2018 season and was able to help the Morehead State offense to a net rushing total of 2,174 yards (197.6 yds/game), the highest total since the 2005 season (3,078 yards). The 2018 campaign also yielded three All-Pioneer Football League Honorable Mention Selections in offensive lineman in Kris Jones, Josh Poe and Ben Price.
Rude came to MSU after serving as a graduate assistant at NAIA school Concordia (Mich.), where he was responsible for coaching the defensive line, player evaluations, film coordinating and recruiting.
Rude earned four letters as an offensive and defensive lineman at Division III school Albion (Mich.) from 2006-09. He was named team captain as a senior and went on to serve as a student assistant coach.
A native of Waterford, Mich., Rude earned a bachelor’s degree in economics & business management from Albion in 2010 and finished his master's degree at MSU in 2012.
