Sam Umberg is in his first season on the Morehead State football coaching staff, where he assists with wide receivers.
Umberg spent the 2013 season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, North Gwinnett High School, in Suwanee, Ga. He coached wide receivers and assisted the offensive coordinator. He was also instrumental in film analysis and developing game plans.
Umberg was a student assistant coach at Valdosta State (Ga.) for five seasons. His primary duties were assisting with the offense and monitoring academic performance.
In his time as a collegiate coach, the Blazers were 41-16 and won the 2012 Division II National Championship. Valdosta State averaged more than 300 total yards per game all five seasons and more than 200 passing yards in four of five seasons.
Umberg coached all-region and First-Team All-Gulf South quarterback Cayden Cochran at Valdosta State. At North Gwinnett, he helped guide Vanderbilt signee Caleb Scott and Missouri signee Nate Brown, who combined for 2,071 yards and 31 touchdowns.
Umberg earned his bachelor's degree in history from Valdosta State in 2013.
