Chris Garner

Chris Garner is in his ninth season as an assistant football coach at Morehead State.  He continues to work with the defensive line.

In 2009, MSU defensive linemen Derik Steiner and Andrew Doan earned All-Pioneer Football League honors.  The Eagles also ranked fourth among all Football Championship Subdivision schools in rushing defense.

Garner came to Morehead State after two years as the defensive line coach at Cumberland College (Ky.), which is now University of the Cumberlands.  His first coaching job was at the University of Findlay (Ohio), where he spent one season with the defensive line and three years with the tight ends and tackles.

Garner was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter as a lineman at Findlay.  An all-conference selection, Garner helped the Oilers to a 36-9-2 record from 1993-96 and four consecutive NAIA national tournament appearances.

In 1995, Findlay finished 10-1-2 and won the NAIA national championship.  In 1996, the Oilers won their first 12 contests before falling in the NAIA national semifinals.

Garner earned a bachelor's degree from Findlay in 1996.  He has also completed several classes towards a master's degree.

Garner earned all-city honors as an offensive and defensive lineman at Aiken High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He is married to the former Stephanie Menifee, who serves as an employment and training manager at Morehead State.  The couple has two daughters, Ryan and Casey.
