Paul Humphries is in his sixth season as an assistant football coach at Morehead State. He works with the safeties and coordinates all aspects of team travel.
Humphies has mentored several award-winning safeties and cornerbacks over the past five years. The list is highlighted by two-time All-American David Hyland, who led all Football Championship Subdivision players in interceptions per game in 2007.
Prior to arriving at MSU, Humphries was an assistant coach at several colleges and universities -- East Tennessee State (1999-2000), University of the Cumberlands (2001), Coastal Carolina (2002), Belhaven College (2005) and Bacone College (2006).
Humphries also served as an assistant coach at two high schools in South Carolina -- Sumter (2003) and Byrnes (2004). His 2003 squad finished second in the state, while his 2004 club won a state championship.
Humphries earned a bachelor's degree from Wofford College in 1997. As a player, he earned NCAA Division I-AA All-America honors in 1994. After college, he was signed by both British Columbia (1997) and Toronto (1999) of the Canadian Football League.
A native of Chesnee, S.C., Humphries once held his home state's high school record with 31 career interceptions. He has one daughter, Whitney.
