Dennis McCaffrey

Dennis McCaffrey, who competed for current Morehead State Head Coach Brent Ericksen while he was at Southern Oregon University (SOU), is in his first season as an assistant coach.

A native of Ashland, Ore., McCaffrey originally enrolled at the University of Oregon in 2006 before transferring to Western Washington University. At Oregon, he trained for legendary former coach Tom Heinonen. He finished his cross country/track and field career at SOU from 2009-11.

Serving as team captain, McCaffrey helped guide SOU to two conference titles and an NAIA National Championship in 2010. He was a two-time All-Cascade Collegiate Conference runner and finished 31st and 33rd at the national championships in cross country, just missing All-America honors. He also qualified for the NAIA 3,000-meter steeplechase national championship twice. In 2009, McCaffey's SOU team finished third nationally.

He clocked personal bests of 24:54 in the 8K, 9:19 in the steeplechase and 14:48 in the 5K during track and field season.

McCaffrey graduated with a bachelor's degree from SOU in 2011 and is currently working on his master's degree at Morehead State.
