PRIOR TO MSU: Bastin has followed an unusual path to college. A one-time teammate of former MSU star Lucy Singleton at Lincoln County High School, Bastin did not run in high school her final three years. However, when she was a member of the team, she won a pair of state championships. As a seventh grader, she won the 1,600m and then finished third at that distance as an eighth grader. She teamed with Singleton to place fifth in the 4x800-meter relay in her first season. She was the indoor state champ in the 800-meter run through the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association meet, before the Kentucky High School Athletic Association took it over. In 2022, Bastin was second at the state cross country meet. She also won three regional cross country titles. She is the school record holder in both the 1,600m and 3,200m. Outside of high school, the Stanford, Ky., native was an AAU national champion in cross country and was named as an AAU cross country All-American in 2022. She graduated second in her class.
