Sarah Martin, who has been involved with Morehead State volleyball since 2017, was promoted to head coach of the beach volleyball program prior to the 2024 season. Martin had been on the beach staff since 2018.
With Martin on staff, the beach Eagles have posted five consecutive winning seasons and 58 victories in that span. MSU won the 2021 OVC regular-season title and has appeared in the OVC Tournament championship match two straight seasons, having to fight back through multiple elimination matches to advance.
She has helped mentor seven pairs to All-OVC awards and coached one OVC Pair and Player of the Year.
Martin helped guide the indoor team to an OVC regular season and tournament championship during the 2020-21 season and coached the Eagles during the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory - a win over Creighton in Omaha, Neb. She also was a key part of MSU claiming an OVC regular-season title in the fall of 2021.
Martin has been a part of nearly 100 Eagle indoor victories in her time at Morehead State and three 20-win campaigns.Â
Prior to her MSU tenure, Martin was a standout student-athlete at Transylvania (Ky.), where she owns the program's career dig record. Martin earned the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Most Valuable Player in 2010.
Martin was also the assistant coach and head junior varsity coach at Henry Clay High School in Lexington, Ky. At HCHS, she helped guide her team to four state tournament appearances, including a spot in the 2016 state title match. For her efforts, Martin was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association 30 Under 30 list.
Martin also served as assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach at Lexington's Bryan Station High School in 2011.
Martin earned her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Transylvania in 2011. She is married to Matthew Martin, Morehead State's head men's golf coach.
