GAME NOTES

MOREHEAD, Ky.--
Morehead State football will soar south to the sunshine state to square off against Jacksonville Saturday. This will be the Eagles fourth Pioneer League game of the season. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.

The Eagles are coming off of a close loss last week against Davidson. The Eagles had a 7-3 halftime lead, and battled back and forth throughout the second half but couldn’t overcome a fourth quarter touchdown by the Wildcats and bowed 16-10. Jacksonville is coming off a last-second loss against Pioneer League foe Marist. Marist scored the game winning touchdown with seven seconds left in the game, and won 31-27.

Morehead State now stands at an overall record of 2-4 and 0-3 in PFL action, meanwhile Jacksonville has a 2-3 overall record with a 1-1 record in PFL play. MSU and JU are deadlocked in the all-time series, 4-4. Jacksonville has won the last three meetings, and MSU is 2-2 in Jacksonville at D.B. Milne Field.

The Eagles continue to be a first strike team, scoring first in last week’s contest to raise their first-quarter point total to 72 on the year. The Eagles have scored first in five of their six games.  Although Jerrod Pendleton did not play in last week’s game due to an illness, he continues to be the Eagles leading rusher. He has 152 yards on 36 carries and one touchdown. Ronnie McDermott is the Eagles utility player: McDermott leads the team in receiving with 18 catches for 185 yards and one TD, and also has 47 yards rushing and one touchdown. The QB carousel is still spinning right round as last week Evan Sawyer and Zach Lewis split time for the Eagles. Lewis is 18-of-35 for 111 yards and Sawyer is 49-of-106 for 570 yards and has four touchdown passes.

Although the Eagles gave up 174 yards rushing last week, the Eagle defense continues to be strong against the run, ranking third in the nation in rush defense at 66.8 yards per game. MSU continues to lead the nation in tackles-for-loss with 10.25 per game for a total of 61.5.  Wes McDermott had nine tackles last week, and now leads the team with 50 on the season.  Andrew Doan has been a monster on the defensive line, he now leads the team in tackles-for-loss at eight and half, and has seven sacks which leads the team and ranks him sixth in the nation individually in the category.

Offensively Jacksonville is lead by quarterback Josh McGregor who has 80 completions on 145 attempts for 1232 yards and 13 touchdowns. The Dolphins leading rusher is Rudell Small who has 473 yards rushing and three touchdowns and their leading receiver is Josh Philpart with 25 catches for 438 yards and four touchdowns.

Defensively the Dolphins leading tacklers are Joseph Fennell and Allen Fennell who have 47 and 33 tackles respectively. The Jacksonville defense has tallied 17 sacks for 108 yards this season.

This year’s game will be Jacksonville’s homecoming and Morehead State will look to play the spoiler and avenge last years 40-9 loss on the Eagles own homecoming. Morehead State is also flying to and returning from the game on game day in a mirror of what Jacksonville did last season.
