Volleyball Eagles Continue Homestand This Weekend With APSU, TSU

MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State volleyball team continues its four-match homestand this weekend when Austin Peay visits at 7 p.m. Friday and Tennessee State comes to town Saturday at 2 p.m. Head coach Jaime Gordon will be honored before Friday night's contest for his 200th career collegiate coaching win, and Saturday will be Trick-or-Treat with the Eagles at 12:30 p.m. in the Wetherby Gym lobby.

Friday night's match will be a chance for MSU to move back into a tie for second place if it can defeat the Lady Govs. APSU is currently 17-6 overall and 10-2 in the OVC, while the Eagles sit only a game back at 9-3 OVC-wise and 17-7 overall.

Austin Peay defeated MSU 3-1 in Clarksville, Tenn., on Sept. 29. Stephanie Champine is the go-to player on offense for the Lady Govs as she leads the league with 4.39 kills per set. As a team, APSU also tops all OVC schools with a .225 hitting percentage.

Tennessee State, meanwhile, is looking to finish off the year strong after a rough go of it so far. Only two years removed from an NCAA Tournament appearance, the Tigers are 3-20 overall and 2-9 in the OVC this season. Shaquita Williams' 2.4 kills per set leads TSU, while Vicmari Prosparo leads the OVC in aces.

Morehead State is coming off two wins last weekend over EKU and SIU Edwardsville. Junior Kaitlin Craven continues to lead the MSU attack as she averages more than 3.0 kills per set. She got her 1,000th career kill two weeks ago at Tennessee Tech. Freshman Annie Gruenschlaeger, this week's OVC Defensive Player of the Week, ranks seventh in the nation with 1.47 blocks per set. As a team, the Eagles rank 20th nationally and first in the OVC with 2.7 blocks per set.

MSU leads the all-time series with APSU 38-24 and leads TSU 36-8.
