MOREHEAD, Ky.—
Morehead State volleyball had three players register 12 kills and hit .375 or better en route to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-21) sweep of Ohio Valley Conference foe UT Martin Friday night at Wetherby Gym.

Junior Kaitlyn Craven, sophomore Emma Keough and freshman Ellie Roberson each had 12 kills to lead the Eagle offense. Roberson hit .375 while Craven and Keough hit .417 and .409 respectively. Morehead State hit .294 as a team, including .533 in set one.

“I was really pleased with our effort,” Morehead State coach Jaime Gordon said. “Our offense was clicking and that helped us survive UT Martin’s scoring runs. We will continue to tweak a few things, but overall I was very pleased, especially with how well we hit tonight.”

MSU (14-5; 7-1 OVC) took a quick 5-1 lead to start set one on four straight serves by senior Kristina Schoo. The Skyhawks never got any closer than four through the remainder of the set.

Morehead State opened up a close set two on three straight kills, one from freshman Annie Gruenschlaeger and two by Roberson. The offensive attack extended a two-point MSU lead to six points and gave the Eagles the cushion needed to take a 2-0 match lead.

A Cassidy Hawkins kill capped a quick start for UT Martin in the final set, giving the visiting Skyhawks a 5-1 lead. MSU fought back and tied it at seven on an ace by junior Lindsey Ruddell. Close the remained of the way, the Skyhawks trailed 22-21 following an attack error by Craven. Craven immediately redeemed herself on the next two volleys with a kill and an ace. Roberson’s kill closed out the win for MSU.

Schoo had 10 digs and junior Holly Evans finished with four blocks to lead the Eagle defense. Junior Kirstie Brangers had 33 assists and sophomore Liz Schuler had two of MSU’s six aces.

Lauren Montague tallied 10 kills and hit .259 to lead UT Martin. Jenna Martin had 21 assists and Kasey Elswick and Montague had 14 and 10 digs respectively.

Morehead State will host Murray State Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Wetherby Gym. The match will be MSU’s Dig for the Cure match and Eagle volleyball will be taking donations for the American Cancer Society. MSU volleyball is urging everyone in attendance to wear pink in support of the fight against breast cancer.

UT Martin (7-10; 2-6 OVC) will play at Eastern Kentucky at 2 p.m
