MOREHEAD, Ky.— Morehead State senior defensive back
Derek Harkness was named Pioneer Football League defensive player of the week the League announced Sunday afternoon.
Harkness inter¬cepted a PFL-record three passes, returning one for a touchdown, in Morehead State’s 28-21 overtime loss Satur¬day. Harkness’ returned his first interception 63 yards for a touchdown to give Morehead State a 14-0 lead. His second interception stopped Butler’s ensuing drive at the Morehead State six-yard line. He completed the trifecta with a pick in the opening moments of the second quarter.
Harkness also was credited with two pass breakups, jarring the ball loose just as the Butler receivers made the catches both times. He is the third FCS player to record three interceptions in a game this season and he also tied the MSU interception record.
Morehead State will host Pioneer League rival Dayton Saturday at Jayne Stadium at 1 p.m.
