BATAVIA, Ohio—The Morehead State women’s golf team tied for the top spot at the University of Cincinnati Fall Invitational, sharing the low score with the host Bearcats. MSU was the runner-up for the tournament due to tie-breaking rules. Freshman Marissa Kamelgarn earned medalist honors with a 223 (75-78-70). The tournament concluded Tuesday at the windy par-72, 6,186-yard Elks Run Golf Course.
The Eagles shot their best round of the tournament Tuesday to finish with a 937 (313-314-310). Cincinnati rallied in the second and third round to tie MSU at 937 (320-310-307). Both teams were four strokes ahead of third-place Southern Mississippi’s 941.
“I’m really proud of our girls,” MSU coach
Stephanie Barker said. “We played in tough conditions on a tough course. The windy conditions probably made par 75, so we knew that anyone shooting in the low to mid seventies had the chance to do something special.”
Kamelgarn won her first collegiate tournament by edging Joyce Trus of Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State by one stroke. Sophomore
Emma Jonsson also earned a top five finish, placing fifth with a 229 (77-77-75).
“I’m really excited about Emma Jonsson coming in fifth and Marisa Kamergarn winning her first tournament,” Barker said.
Junior
Paige Lausier tied for 25th overall with a 239 (82-77-80) and senior
Darlene Bognot shot a 252 (85-82-85). Sophomore
Emma Eksell rounded out the scoring with a 253 (70-84-90) to place 60th.

Karolina Tunstig played as individuals, each tying for 44th overall with a 247. Grunkemeyer shot 83-85-79 and Tunstig fired an 88-78-81 over the three-round tournament.
Murray State finished fifth with a 949 and Eastern Kentucky, the other OVC team competing in the tournament placed 10th with a 978.
The Eagles will next play at the F&M Bank Intercollegiate on Oct. 19-20 in Clarksville, Tenn.
