BOX SCORE | BOX SCORE PDF

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Devan Jordan’s header in the 108th minute catapulted MSU to a 2-1 victory at Ohio Valley Conference arch-rival Eastern Kentucky Sunday afternoon. The Eagles improved to 7-0-1 in conference play and now hold an overall record of 10-6-1. This victory marks the most wins in one season in school history.

The Colonels started the scoring in the 28th minute when Carly Muller got past the MSU defense and lured Eagle goalkeeper Lily Meisner out towards the edge of the box and fired a shot from ten yards out to score her fourth goal of the season.

The Eagles responded just 12 minutes later when Alex Pacitto played a great pass to junior forward Devan Jordan who blasted her third goal of the season from seven yards out, beating EKU goalkeeper Stephanie Lynch.

MSU and EKU went into intermission tied at one. The Eagles and Colonels both fired four shots in the half, however EKU held the advantage in corner kicks 4-1.

EKU’s Muller had a great scoring opportunity midway through the second half, but her shot hit the cross bar and the Eagles were able to clear the ball.

MSU’s Lindsey Oettle fired a shot from the middle of the box near the end of the second period but Lynch came up with a great save to keep the score even.

The Eagles and Colonels went through the entire first overtime period still deadlocked, but in the 108th minute of the second overtime Jordan scored her second goal of the game and her fourth of the season. Sam Corman played a free kick from the deep left corner of the field, a perfect set-up pass to Jordan, whose header flew into the back of the goal. The overtime game-winner secured an unbeaten conference mark for the second straight year.

Morehead State outshot EKU 11-10, but the Colonels held a huge advantage in corner kicks 8-2. EKU was hit with 12 fouls, while MSU had eight.

Meisner came up with three saves in the effort. She won her tenth game of the season, a new MSU school record, beating the previous mark of nine set by Holly Beach in 2000. Lynch had five saves for EKU.

Jordan led the Eagles in shots with four, while Giuleana Lopez and Alyssa Nacke had two each. Muller led EKU with three shots.

Warren Lipka picked up his 200th career victory and now has a career record of 200-152-35; Lipka is 12-0-4 in his first two seasons at MSU in regular season conference play.

Morehead State will travel to Farmville, Va., next Sunday Oct. 31 to face non-conference opponent Longwood. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
