MOREHEAD, Ky. --Â A trio of Morehead State soccer student-athletes have earned status on the 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team.
Eagle honorees include sophomore forwards
Ava Peck and
Carly Gilbert, and junior defender/midfielder
Hannah Carter.
"Firstly, I am proud of the three of them," said MSU head coach
Paul Cox. "They really embody what it is to be a student athlete. They're all great leaders within our program and it doesn't surprise me they received this honor. Congratulations to them and their families."
Peck has a 3.90 GPA with a major in small business management.
"I am excited to receive this honor for academic all-district," said Peck. "Balancing soccer and school isn't easy, especially being on the road so much, so I am grateful for the recognition and for everyone who supported me during the season."
Gilbert owns a 3.87 GPA and is an exercise science major.
"I'm honored to be recognized for my hard work not only on the field but also in the classroom," Gilbert said. "It's great to be able to represent the university and the soccer program alongside Ava and Hannah."
Carter, who spent her first two years at Murray State, sports a 3.82 GPA. She is majoring in accounting.
"I am very appreciative that I was given this award," said Carter. "Academics are very important as a student-athlete. The student comes first, and I am glad my hard work has paid off in the classroom."
It is the second straight year three Eagles were selected. Last fall,
Hedda Ornberg,
Gracen Houck and
Anna Lohrer were recognized. In addition to last year's trio, only three other Morehead State soccer players have been honored in MSU's history: Erin Adams (2010), Jillian Birchmeier (2011) and Jade Flory (2014).
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) began the distinguished Academic All-America® program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America® scholar-athlete honors. In 2022, CoSIDA re-branded itself as the College Sports Communicators.
Peck, a forward from Vandalia, Ohio, played in all 18 matches this year and started 16. Gilbert, a forward from Decatur, Ind., saw action in 17 matches. Carter, a native of Bowling Green, Ky., who is in her second semester at MSU, is the lone Eagle to have played and started all 18 matches. Peck finished third on the squad with 18 shots. Gilbert and Carter, a co-captain who played the most minutes on the team, both tallied nine shots.
Currently, CSC sponsors Academic All-America® programs for men's soccer, women's soccer, football, tennis, volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, swimming and diving and men's and women's track and field/cross country. Many other sports are eligible through the At-Large program. In 2022, the guidelines were updated to include more representation on the All-District teams. Sports have limitations as to the number of athletes that can be nominated and the minimum grade-point average was raised to 3.50.
Morehead State completed its season with a 3-13-2 overall record and a 1-6-2 Ohio Valley Conference mark.
