Sublett and Power Ink With Women's Golf Team

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Hannah Sublett and Krista Power, both in-state golf standouts, have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Morehead State women’s golf team next season, coach Stephanie Barker announced this week.

Sublett is a product of 16th region school Greenup County, and Power will join the Eagles from Owen County High School in central Kentucky. Both players were highly recruited by several Division I schools and both possess state championship experience.

Sublett Signs
Sublett is the daughter of Nickie and Tim Sublett and is a three-time 16th region individual champion as she led Greenup County High School to a trio of regional titles. She placed in the top 10 of the 2009 Kentucky State Championships in Bowling Green and was named all-state. She also placed eighth at the Natural Resource Partners Bluegrass Junior Championship in 2010.

“From what I know of Hannah, she is a great person with wonderful leadership qualities. Everyone who I have spoken with who works with Hannah has said that she is truly a genuine young lady who works hard, loves golf, and has a great sense of humor. These attributes, in addition to her great golfing ability, make her a wonderful addition to our team,” said Barker.

Sublett felt like Morehead State was absolutely the perfect choice.

“I made up my mind that I wanted to go where the coach and players wanted me,” said Sublett. “Coach Barker was always calling to say how much they loved me and wanted me to be a part of their program.”
Sublett’s high school coach, Lou Quillen, also felt like MSU made an excellent choice in recruiting Sublett to stay in the region.

“Hannah has been a great leader and role model for the rest of our players. She is well-mannered and always represented her school well.”

The daughter of Jennifer and Shawn Power, Krista won the Region title in 2010 with a score of 76. She also won the All "A" Regional her senior year with a 66 in addition to also winning the All "A" Regional in 2008 and 2009. Power was the KPGA Pepsi Junior Tour Player of the Year 2008 and the KPGA Gatorade Masters Division Player of the Year in 2010.

Power Signs
Power was named the Jace Bugg Award Winner for the Pepsi Junior Golf Tour in 2010 and was awarded the Forcht Group of Kentucky Sportsmanship Award for the State Golf Tournament last year. She was named the Northern Central Kentucky Conference Tournament MVP in 2007 and 2009, and she was the 7-UP Tour Girls Division Champion in 2008.

“Krista is an excellent example of someone who excels at everything she sets her mind to. Not only has she blossomed into a talented golfer here in Kentucky, she has maintained a 4.0 GPA while mainly taking all advanced placement courses,” said Barker. “Krista is kind, cheerful, and smart young lady. I am excited to see her game mature while she helps our program excel academically and athletically.”

Power had no doubt that making Morehead State her college choice was the right decision.

"After visiting the campus, I just knew that Morehead State was where I wanted to be. The team was so welcoming, I loved the small town atmosphere, and I felt that Coach Barker and her staff would put in the time to make me a better player, which was exactly what I was looking for,” she said. “I also felt that I could get a good education at Morehead State. It’s so exciting to be a part of a nationally-ranked team and to play with other golfers that love the game just as much as I do. I can't wait to begin my freshman year of college at Morehead State University."
