MOREHEAD, Ky. – It’s back to Ohio Valley Conference action this week for the Morehead State women’s basketball team. The Eagles will take on Tennessee State in Nashville on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. EST.
The game can be heard live on the Eagle Sports Network (WIVY-FM 96.3) and on
www.msueagles.com.
The Eagles would like to have a repeat of the stat sheet from last year’s game in Nashville when MSU blistered the nets at the free throw line.
Last season, the Eagles used an unbelievable free throw stat line to rally and beat the Lady Tigers, 76-65. MSU shot 29 free throws in the second half alone.
Chynna Bozeman set a school record by hitting all 17 of her free tosses, and
Courtney Lumpkin made 10 of 11. If this year’s stat totals are an indication, then the Eagles will be spending a lot of time at the Gentry Center stripes again.
MSU is coming off a 69-62 win at SIU Edwardsville where the Eagles made 28 of 39 free throws. A look at the stat totals for the Eagles this year, however, reflects that MSU’s opponents are getting to the line as well. MSU and its 10 opponents have each hit 163 charity tosses this season.
TSU enters the game with a 3-7 mark and an 0-2 OVC ledger. Meredith Stafford is the lone Lady Tiger averaging double figures in points at 11.3. TSU has dropped four straight games.
The Eagles, meanwhile, enter on a four-game winning streak and have bumped their overall mark to 7-3. MSU is 2-0 in the league. Three players, led by Bozeman’s 17.3 points per game, average in double figures.
Ashar Harris scores 13.3 per outing, and Lumpkin tosses in 11.2.
After Sunday’s tilt, The Eagles will be at Austin Peay next for an OVC contest on Tuesday night at 6:15 p.m. EST.
