MOREHEAD, Ky. - The quest for the first Ohio Valley Conference women's basketball tournament championship in school history begins Tuesday night at 5: 30 p.m. in Johnson Arena as the second-seeded Morehead State Eagles host the seventh-seeded Murray State Lady Racers. The two teams just met last Thursday with the Eagles winning 66-63.
Tickets are available by calling the MSU ticket office at 606-783-2088 or by going online at
www.msueagles.com. The game can be heard live on the Eagle Sports Network as well.
Morehead State finished the 2009-10 regular season with a school record 14-4 OVC mark and a school record 21 wins against just nine losses. The 38 combined wins in the last two years is also a school mark. The Eagles have never been seeded any higher than third for the OVC Tournament until this season.
In Thursday's victory over the Lady Racers, sophomore point guard Courtney Lumpkin put the team on her back and scored a career high 20 points, including a key driving layup with 26 seconds left, as the Eagles came from behind to sweep the season series from Murray State. Surprisingly, these two MSU's have only ever met once in the league tournament and that was an 87-61 Murray State win two years ago.
The winner of Tuesday's contest moves on the semifinals in Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on Friday, March 5 at 3 p.m. EST. The opponent for that game will either be third seed Austin Peay or sixth seed Tennessee Tech.
