MOREHEAD, Ky. – The rainy weather couldn’t keep the Southeast Missouri State bats down as the Redhawks hit eight home runs and defeated Morehead State 15-7 in the rubber match of their opening Ohio Valley Conference series.
Taylor Davis crushed two home runs to lead MSU.
SEMO jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on a lead-off home run from Kenton Parmley and a two-run shot from Casey Jones.
MSU (13-14, 1-2) fired right back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. #J.D. Ashbrook
and Daniel Pugh
hit consecutive singles to start the inning. Ashbrook then scored on a single by Michael Fear
and Pugh was plated on a sacrifice fly by Cameron Flynn#. Davis then crushed the first of his two home-runs, a towering shot into the parking lot in left field.
The Redhawks (15-9, 2-1) regained the lead with a five run fourth behind home runs from Brett Russell and Jim Klocke and blew the game open with back-to-back-to-back jacks in the top of the seventh. Russell, Parmley and Michael Adamson all went yard in the sequence that made the score 13-4.
Davis’s second home run of the game, the sophomore’s sixth of the season, made it 13-7 after eight, before a two-run bomb from Klocke pushed the lead back out to eight runs.
SEMO starter Jordan Underwood pitched superbly after allowing the four-run first, blanking the Eagles for six straight innings, before Davis’s second bomb chased Underwood from the game. Underwood allowed just three hits in those six innings.
Davis finished the game with five RBIs while Ashbrook and
Travis Redmon also each had multi-hit outings.
The Eagles are back in action Tuesday as they host Georgetown College at 3:00 p.m.
