2010 MEN’S & WOMEN’S OVC TENNIS TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
PADUCAH, Ky. – The Morehead State men’s and women’s tennis teams both have secured four seeds in the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Tennis Tournament, which will be held on April 16-18 at the Heflin Tennis Center in Paducah, Ky., the conference office announced Monday.
On the men’s side, the No. 4 seed Eagles will be matched up with No. 5 seed Austin Peay in the first round which starts at 11:00 a.m. ET., on April 16. This will be the second straight year MSU has earned a right to play in the tournament, as the men finished the regular season with a 10-8 overall record and a 4-3 mark in OVC play.
“Austin Peay will be a good match-up for us, we beat them 4-3 earlier in the year. The guys are excited to play in this tournament for the second year in a row.” said MSU coach Kevin Fulton “EKU is the team to beat, but with any tournament like this, who ever can get hot will make a run and have a shot at winning the title.”
On the women’s side, Morehead State will be making the tournament for the first time since 2004. The No. 4 seed Eagles will be matched up with No. 5 seed EKU in the first round which starts at 3:00 p.m. ET., on April 16. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 9-13 overall mark and a 6-3 OVC record.
The Jacksonville State women and the Eastern Kentucky Men went undefeated in league play to win the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season titles and the top seeds in the tournament.
Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee Tech earned first round byes as the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds. Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Austin Peay and Murray State complete the men’s field.
Making the women’s field along with Jacksonville State are Austin Peay, UT Martin, Morehead State, Eastern Kentucky and Murray State. As the top two seeds, the Gamecocks and the Lady Govs receive first-round byes.
“I think that any of the teams can win the tournament, it is going to come down to who ever plays with more heart and poise.” said coach Fulton “Jacksonville State and Austin Peay both have had great years, but if we can play our style of tennis, I feel confident we will do well and make a run at the title.”
This is the first time under Kevin Fulton’s tenure at Morehead State that both the men’s and women’s teams will be competing in the tournament.
